Is anyone aware of the problem with a crunchy third gear (or any gear for that matter) on the LT77 gearbox? Dropping down from third, the syncro is terrible. New gearbox?

Check your clutch hydraulics first as it may be as simple as low fluid level, poor slave & master cylinder seals.
However its not an uncommon fault on the LT77 -either recon box or replace synchro - depends on your level of skill & bank balance which you choose.

I agree with 8{|> I had a similar problem with my LT77, in the end it was the push rod from the clutch pedal to the cylinder, it just needed a little ajustment to give greater travel distance. Also, check the resevoir and that the box has plently oil in it (ATF).

I hope its just the push rod, but she probably needs a new gearbox. She's managed 170k on it!

Thanks,

M

Might be the simple stuff then - my old 200tdi RR went pear shaped at 65k :( If the synchro endfloat wasn't set correctly at the factory the result tends to be sooner rater than later.
Lots of transmission shunt tends to indicate the other feature of the LT77 - lack of lubrication in the final reduction gear - the splines wear away. :(

Oh the joys of character in a vehicle

Its like this ghazz, I get my paws on some cash and then my Landy breaks. I pay out to fix it, then I **** off back to work until ive got some more money. Then the Landy breaks, I pay out to fix it, then I **** off back to work.....

Eventually I die.
