Last night I came in to work and they were fine, but this morning coming home they didn't want to work. Worked occasionally if you held the stalk before they lock.

This evening again coming to work they were fine :confused:

My instinct says dodgy stalk contacts but everything I've seen on here relating to indicators has been the relay.
 
try pressing hazard switch a few times they can get crap inside from lack of use and indys run thru it :D
 
Hazard worked, I was checking that on the way home because of the stalk. That could have been why it was still working occasionally.

It's not an easy job to get the stalk out is it? Steering wheel off? I've had the stalk out from a Peugeot 206 before and cleaned the contacts, that wasn't difficult at all
 
The indicator circuit on the Disco 2 isn't quite as straightforward as on older vehicles, even though it does involve the use of a timer/flasher relay, it's all built into the BCU.
Your problem certainly sounds like it could be the stalk, and no, the steering wheel doesn't have to come off, with all that that entails. You will however need to get into the shroud or nacelle covering the steering column between the steering wheel and the dashboard; there should be three screws in the bottom half holding the two halves together.
 
Had a similar problem on my D2. Turns out the rear door lock wasn't opening fully confusing the BCU.
Sorry but this thing is too much even for LR oddities... that sould have been some coincidence cos it's technically impossible that a door lock switch to "confuse" the BCU as to affect the indicators action from the stalk... IMO the OP's problem is with the stalk as well presumed
 
This morning after work it was intermittent again but just a couple of hours later we left the house and drove almost 200 miles without any problem!?!?!

They were both particularly cold mornings but WTF. Surely a cold morning isn't the cause is it?
 
I bow to Sierra Ferry's extensive knowledge but this was definitely the problem in my case. I now make sure the rear door is fully unlocked.

I hadn't checked the rear door locks when I was going to or from work but the near side rear is a bit sticky, one press for drivers door, second for the rest doesn't always unlock that one.

Such a bizarre thing to affect the indicators though :D
 
I can't confirm either way, just know that it's not happened except for the two cold mornings.

For the long journeys that door needed unlocked for one of the children and it was still okay when I came in to work this morning at 0530.

It's strange to say the least.
 
I can confirm the following...

After work this evening, when unlocked the first time the button lifted fully so I locked and tried again.
Second time the rear passenger door did not fully unlock with the others but the indicators did function correctly.

May be a 'false positive' because of 1st unlock.
