Can anyone help?

Ongoing problem for a year with 2006 Freelander TD4 only 2 months left on warranty. Intermittent power loss when pulling away. Worse after a longer journey when travelling motorway etc. come to a roundabout and need to pull away quick and feels as if its going to stall. LR HAVE REPLACED FUEL PUMP AND MAFF SENSORS. Still no good! they say they can't find anything wrong with it! Three of us have driven this motor and experienced the same loss of power. Did start to feel paranoid and can't understand why LR don't experience it when they drive it!

HAS ANYONE ELSE HAD THIS PROBLEM?
 
I think you need an independent second opinion. Perhaps if you gave a rough idea of your location one of the more experienced members may be close enough to help out with a test drive?

Just got back from LR Barratts at Canterbury after speaking to the Manager, as we are really worried about the warranty running out before the problem is resolved. Should hear something Monday when he has spoken to the Servicing Manager. Thank you for replying and will let you know how we get on.

O.k. if you don't get anywhere with the dealer, write to LR customer liason explaining that this fault is potentially dangerous as you cannot predict how the vehicle will respond when attempting to join fast/ busy traffic.

if you have a problem arise while it is under waranty.. and reported.as you have..and they can't resolve it before the waranty runs out..then they would have to carry on till it is resolved... at no cost to you..if a problem arises after the waranty runs out...then it is completley diffrent....

Thanks for that Phil. Barratts have said the same but I still want it in writing from them. I'm also concerned about the safety of driving this motor as it is. I cover 60 miles a day for my work and worry now at roundabouts etc. Like Dann says this is potentially dangerous. No doubt I would be liable if a car run into my side, not LR!

You neglect to say whether it is manual or automatic?

The reason i ask is that many auto gearbox faults are very simular to that which you describe.

The problem is not forced to be engine related.

Hi there

It's manual. LR Barratts are having it back in tomorrow so it's back to a courtesy car for a while! Hopefully they will get to the bottom it.:doh:

Well it's back to the drawing board and Barratts are having it back in tomorrow, all going well. At least we will have a courtesy car. Let you know how it goes. However I found something interesting on a forum which had the same criteria which I have copied and pasted :

Hi from South Africa. It seems that our dealerships are about as useless as everyone elses. My '04 TD4 sat in the dealership workshop for 10 weeks while they tried to fix this power loss issue and I had to have a few MAJOR temper tantrums at Land Rover South Africa before someone took notice and decided to really look into it.

They changed the head, the fuel pump, the turbo, all the injectors and the MAF but nothing worked. Finally a hotshot mechanic changed the ECU (engine control unit) and lo and behold WHAT A CAR !! All I can say is YEEEHHHAAA, it's everything I could want and more. Apparently, the ECU was sending an incorrect voltage signals. Re-programming did not work - the unit had to be replaced !!

This gives me some hope! :blabla:

O.k hang on to the courtesy car keys each time you road test your own vehicle after repairs. If your own vehicle is not improved to your satisfaction, explain that you will be communicating with LR customer liason and retaining the courtesy vehicle until the problem is resolved.

I have had the same problem with my 06 and 56 reg Freelander TD4's. When i was pulling away, all of a sudden it would just lose power and then come back just a quickly.

Thank you for all you information. What was the outcome? Did LR ever get to the bottom of it? I am questioning the fact that they may never resolve it!
