Im not sure what the problem is with my 90, a couple of days ago i noticed a tapping noise!? coming from the engine. theres nothing wrong with the engine its running fine, but on further investigation the crankshaft pulley is slightly at sort of a slight wobble this is making the pulley wheel bind on the engine block which is making the tapping noise.

Can anyone tell me whther its the crankshaft pulley? or something that requires the engine to be laid out in the kitchen?

Many thanks

I would check to see if the crank key is worn out and has shifted, making the pulley sit on the crank uneven.

Not sure which engine were talking here so i may be going down the wrong path.
When i did my timing belt change on the 200tdi i had to replace the bottom pulley. The pulley has a rubber section in it to reduce shock/torque when turning the engine over (i think) if this rubber is perrished i would expect to see it wobble. There is a pic of the part in the write up. Take a look at http://www.landyzone.co.uk/lz/showthread.php?t=831

Hope that helps a little

Thanks for that. I took the Pulley off to find that the whole key had disintegrated! nothing left. Thanks Sam Crow
