I have a 2012 4.4 tdv8 which a week ago just cut out. No spluttering or anything. Just stopped. Got it home and had the fault code P0088... changed fuel filter, fuel rail pressure sensor and fuel pressure sensor. Fuel was getting to HPFP but not coming out. Changed the pump today and still nothing! No fault codes anymore.
Is there anything else I should be looking at? Cheers

Have you checked the in tank and intermediate pumps?
 
The fuel is getting up there so those pumps are unlikely to be the issue. Fuel is getting to the HPFP...
 
Now you've played 'parts darts' you might want to start diagnosing the issue by measuring the primary (low) fuel pressure up to the high pressure pump.
You'll rarely get DTC's back until the engine has started as most are suppressed during cranking - of course, if the engine will not / cannot start, there won't be any suppressed DTC's to give you a clue what to spend money on next, you have to start taking actual measurements & readings.
 
in Bar? - or 'thumb over end of pipe'?
'Thumb over end of pipe' as you put it, but know what I'm looking for... (40 years c&g ag, heavy plant and hgv mechanic) but this has beat me. Will try and get proper readings when back on it...
 
So the LP is within spec, (4.5-7bar) have you carried out a diagnostic reset of the fuel system? - not just clearing DTC's?
Have you removed the HP fuel pump? Have you checked the Fuel Metering Valve? the default is closed without electrical supply. An open circuit will prevent the engine from running. - but as you know what you're looking for I'm sure you'd have checked that ;)

BTW, what does your fuel gauge read? there's clearly fuel there, just wondering if it shutdown because of an erroneous fuel tank reading...
 
Might be worth having a read of the attached LTB - you don't give the full DTC so it may not apply.
The HP fuel pump will shut down in the event of too high a pressure by means of closing off the fuel metering valve, there is also a non-return valve in the fuel line after the fuel cooler which may be blocked / restricted.
You haven't mentioned if you've checked the electrical supply to the fuel metering valve.
As I'm sure you know, problems are most easily diagnosed and rectified with a linear, structured approach - I don't think you've helped yourself by firing the parts cannon a few times without checking measured & actual values first, I've asked you for some test results which you seem to have bypassed, we can't help with an 'internet diagnosis' unless you provide answers to the questions asked.

Fuel gauge reads full... Which it is as we filled that morning. Have got some fuel out and checked and all ok with that...

As a highly qualified IRTEC road transport engineer, workshop foreman and with 40+ years (yes... old skool with an absolute hate of all modern electrics etc... I trained with spanners...) My expertise lies within the HGV and agricultural sectors though and very different to cars. I am fully aware of a structured and linear approach to these things. I am also fully aware of likely causes, which often saves time and money to try those options first. Admittedly my diagnostic kit for home is a generic one, and only throws up general codes. P0088 in this case. Many of the things you have asked for don't seem to exist with this vehicle... fuel reset for a start. (According to the manual, there is no fuel reset, and it should start automatically) Every thing that needs to be tested etc has been... electrical readings etc and all fine. All new parts are fitted correctly, and timed correctly. All are brand new and genuine parts.
