Hi all

I've owned my RR for about a month now and love it but this morning it has let me down. It wouldn't start. It turns over and over and over but won't actually start. I've not had any other issues with the car and it started great for a 10 minute journey yesterday. After checking fuses and other bits and pieces i decided the AA was needed. They have said it looks to be the crank sensor thats at fault and a new one is needed.

I'd gone to work when the AA arrived so my partner stayed with the car at home but unfortunatly she wouldn't know a spanner if it hit her on the head let alone a sersor.

Could somebody please tell me where the sensor is located. All though i'm not a mechanic I'm pretty good at things like this. I managed to fit the towbar will no snaggs if thats anything to go by:)

You need to get the fault codes read otherwise it's just a guess, unless the AA man actually read the faults. It could just be that the alarm is activated for some reason.
 
The AA guys notes definatly say the Crankshaft sensor and having looked on google there are companies selling them. Funny its not in the manual tho:confused:

Just been out to the car and woundered if this could be it. located on the passenger side of the engine towards the back of the engine bay

Hi again. Well the AA was wrong.

I've replaced the crank sensor but the engine still has no go. It turns over and over but not starting. It attemps to on easy start but then just dies again.

Any ideas?

What was the code that was thrown up?

It could be a discrepancy between the crankshaft and camshaft sensors.. It could the wiring is chafed for the crank sensor. The code could help narrow it down.

If I go out to a customer I get them to take a piccy of what I get come up on my pooter or if they don't have a camera phone I get em to jot it down.
 
I'm affraid I don't know the code. My other half didn't think to get it off the guy and he hasnt written it down either.

Looks like another call out for the aa man and may be a loader to the nearest specialist
 
With diagnostics in general you can never say never - but since they came out I have yet to see a crank sensor issue with either TD6 or 4.4v8 L322's.
with a TD6 its much more likely to be a fuel pressure issue,either on the low side - pump,filter etc or high side,pump regulator solenoid,injector leak off or rail sensor/wiring.
 
Fuel pressure was something that I had thought of but his notes say he's tested it and its ok. Could be something on the rail tho
 
Did you ever get this sorted? Had exactly the same problem with mine today. Drove to the shops ok, came out and it wouldn't start at all, just kept turning over.
AA guy said he was getting no signal from engine speed sensor when he plugged the diagnostics in.
It's currently sitting forlornly outside the local LR dealer waiting for some attention in the morning.
 
Turned out to be the secondary fuel pump gone phut!

Replaced by LR for £309 inc vat, not too painful I suppose :rolleyes:
 
Yep i got it sorted, was just like yours the 2nd fuel pump had gone. Paid £200 cash supplied and fitted.

The pump had seized, so not only would it not pump it had also stopped any fuel at all from passing through it.
 
I have a similar problem, I own a 2004 V6 petrol FLander. Mine won't start and has never let me down. Called the RAC out, they said the only fault showing on the diagnostic test was no signal from the Crank Position Sensor. I have ordered one from Rimmer Bros this morning. I will let you know how it goes when the part arrives. Glen.

You need to put your location down and somebody may have been able to help you, but we carn't if we dont know where you live......:rolleyes:
