I know that's what it's intended for, but it's clearly working for Kev, which makes sense when you consider that the OD of the flywheel is probably three or four times the bolt circle diameter of the crank pulley locking bolts, and hence the force required to react the locking torque will be three or four times less. As long as the bolt has a couple of flats on it to make it a good fit in the slot, there shouldn't be anything seeing unduly high stresses.

Does anyone know the bolt circle diameter for the crank pulley removal bolts? I could draw up a locking tool and get it into my next order of laser cut bits. I know I could buy one, but getting one cut would cost less as well as bringing a sense of achievement :)

@Saint.V8 iirc has published the drawing.

I did - it was for the 200Tdi, but the 300Tdi has the same bolt PCD dimensions, it is just the 200Tdi pulley is deeper than the 300Tdi pulley, hence why the tool has such a deep 'height' to it.....

But here it is in use on our old 300Tdi....

And yes, doing the final 90deg turn is a fight.

I just take the pulley off on the 200, 4 bolts and it's off.You then have a flat flange to bolt a locking tool too, I made one from 3 pieces of flat steel welded in a Y shape the V part of the Y has two holes drilled in it corresponding with two opposite pulley mounting bolt holes. The I part of the Y is around 18" long and rests against the chassis to lock it. The V part is so that it clears the centre raised boss of the damper. The one I made took about 1/2 HR to make and is rough and ready, I was going to make a mk11 version that looked better than the prototype but apart from looking crap it's done 4 belt changes with no issues so I've never bothered;)

Hi Folks
I am new to this, could someone please explain is similar language what does +90 means. I did torque it to 80nm with a torque wrench but not sure about this +90 means.
Does that mean after 80nm torque, that 27mm bolt needs to be tightened further turn to 90degree?
I have done about 100 miles without +90. Would that cause any problems?
