Not in the mood for this

I noticed the indicator light wasn't coming on today in my 2003 110 and then this really flippin annoying crackling electrical sound was coming from behind my dash. It is continuous, even when it's switched off. I pulled out the indicator fuses just because I didn't know what else to do but to no avail and I had a wee teet behind the dash to see if I could see any electricity arching but nope. Nae sure what to do now. Am skint so no garage visits this month.

Any ideas boys?

Pull out the other fuses, one by one, to determine which circuit is causing the problem. If this doesn't work, it's one of the unfused circuits, like the cigarette lighter etc. Don't leave it overnight - it could start a fire.
To investigate further, pull the dash back enough to get a hand in. Put a glove on (something will be hot) and start wiggling/pulling the wires.

I had this, turned out one of my rear indicator bulb had blown and the other was going nuts. Putting the hazards on stopped the crackling after I changed the bulb

Does it get any quieter if you pull the indicator controller (people call it a 'relay' but it's a bit more complicated than that)? It's one of the ones behind your instrument cluster on your model. It's a while since I did mine but I seem to remember one of the pins is a permanent live, so you can use the flashers even when the car is broken down.

In fact, if it's not that, try pulling the other relays behind the instruments one at a time and see if it makes a difference. Sometimes when relays go wrong I've heard them making a sizzly sort of noise like bacon frying a long way away.
