hi there new to this.lol I have a freelander td4 2001 .its the one with bmw 2td motor.well here it go to make a long story sort,,,,,car drove fine and was park at a mall then fail to start the fist time ,{crank no start)left it for 30 min en then start ,drove fine for a week .same story stop went in to the house came out fail to start .(crank no start) left for 30 min start fine.week later drove and then park the car ,got back in the car started reversed 5meter went forward 4 meter car cut out ,died on the spot on waring what so ever,(crank no start)....towed it home.
replaced fuel pump in tank ,pump and filter on left front eng-bay....replaced crank sensor. pressure reglater on the bosch mec pump .
service fuel injectors ,,,,,,,
did test with delpi but no faults found (scan test)
still crank no start ,
other problem found, was glow plug relay work on test (delpi obd2) but does not work when done with normal way of start .
5v on all sensors ,cam,crank.air.....injector has 12v on ground but on the leads only shows 1 v when leads are tested... I am not getting diesel in the injectors so car don't what to start..ps checked all relays an fuses all good <does any one have diagram or schematic (wiring from ECU )for this free lander td 4 2001

Sounds like a an injector control problem. As I understand it, you see 12 V when unplugged, but 1 V when plugged in and cranking. It may be worth wiggling the loom while cranking.

However, the 1 V could be a result of your multimeter trying to average-read a PWM signal from the ECU. If you don't have a scope it may be time to let a decent diesel diagnostics man loose on it.

Check the fuel pressure regulator for cleanliness, and inspect its loom and plug.

hi thanks ..I found injectors leads brown and red/white when tested ,,,it give 4-5 v(key on) but when cranking volts go's to 8v.when testing brown leads to positive on battery I get 12 v ,,,,,with noid light I have puls (cranking) ...problem I think is that brown and red/white is not giving 12 v from the ECU, loom good did the test from ECU connection points.diesel pressure 100% and system clean,,thanks guineafowl21

I think if I can find the power sours (colour wires unknown to me) from key to ecu for the injector that give this brown and red/white wires 12v maybe there is a short mmmmmmm thanks

Next time it happens, try pouring cold water over the cam position sensor and then see if it will start.
hi thanks ,,placed in freezer did nothing at all ,,I think the prob is that my injectors is not getting 12 v found injectors leads brown and red/white when tested ,,,it give 4-5 v(key on) but when cranking volts go's to 8v.when testing brown leads to positive on battery I get 12 v ,,,,,with noid light I have puls (cranking) ...problem I think is that brown and red/white is not giving 12 v from the ECU, loom good did the test from ECU connection points.diesel pressure 100% and system clean,,thanks

You seem pretty competent in diesel diagnostics - I'm sure you'll work it out.

Sounds like something is dropping the injector pulse voltage under load - is your battery OK? Does it keep above 9V on cranking?

Also, a bad earth may be the cause - a quick Google might pull up the FL earth points. Or a wiring diagram (which you asked for at the start). If you have time it may be wise to strip back stuff and find and fix all the earths you can see - certainly wouldn't do any harm...

--- found the earth points will strip dash and look what up thanks please keep you ears open if some one you know has the Haynes manual for the freelander td4 with bmw motor----thanks

I must be off now, but on here there are links to RAVE (LR workshop) manuals for the Freelander. Do a search - you cacn download for free.

Best of luck

thanks found the a link but no free download ,if you can help with a link it will help 100's thank enjoy the day ....greeting from the hot south Africa :)

Dont put any low voltage test kit on the injector wires, they run at 80-90V. I think you are going to need to scope all the ecu inputs to see what is missing.Scan tools do not give accurate readings whilst cranking. The other problem with the TD4 is that the engine ecu is permanently seeded to the immobilisation ecu behind the dash,so its not easy to swop it for a known good one.
