Hello All,
2004 TD5 Landmark, 153k miles. While searching for a small engine oil leak, I checked the engine oil level, OK and has never risen on the dipstick, but this time the filler cap smelled of diesel, although the dipstick didn't. When I last changed the oil, 3k miles ago, the drained oil smelled mildly of kerosene, but not diesel.
So, I am assuming that diesel is getting into the sump is at exactly the same rate that it is leaking from the small oil leak, so I'll change the injector seals. There is no record of them having been changed.
I thought that while the injectors are out I'd use a crack detector on the injector pockets just to put my mind at rest (or not), but I've never used one before so I'm asking for your opinion. I was thinking of getting this one, https://www.gas-uk.co.uk/crack-detection-spray-set.html
Am I completely wrong, or is it as good as anything else?
Many thanks.
