Turned into a garage yesterday on full lock and front wheels seemed to be crabbing/slipping sidewrds, the ground was wet, is this normal I hadn't noticed it before

Yes all even tyre ware, it seems to be ok now I went through the procedure to release transmission wind up, ie reversing for a few yards

Check for a broken spring on any of the wheels, that would normally cause crabbing.

Some versions of the Classic have the dreaded VCU I believe, it sounds like a seized VCU which causes the same sort of thing on the P38.

My 89 classic had the same Borg Warner transfer box as the P38 so I would go with Datatek on this.

Sounds like VCU to me as well - I had that on my softdash as well, in 2012.

Got a refurb from this guy;
Home - Bell Engineering

Cost £165

I know it says Freelander bits, but give him a ring.

Not a difficult job, though I left it to my mechanic as it is obviously much easier on a ramp.

Thanks Datatek, like I say it seems ok now I had just fitted a different gearbox with as new input splines and cross drilled gear cluster, (other one was knacked) using the old transfer box, it worried me that I might have got something wrong, it might have been the road surface it was a petrol station and I was on a slope, so lets hope it stays ok
