Hi Folks

Does anybody know where the switch is for the courtesy lights when you open the doors. The lights come on when I open the rear doors but when I open the front doors it is a bit hit and miss. I thought that the switch might be sticking but I have looked all round the doors and cant find a switch so I have no idea how the lights know that the door is open.
Can anyone HELP as it is driving me potty.

Sorry Wills

It's a 2001 DHSE 2.5 Range Rover P38.

Sorry for teh delay in replying. When the lights DONT come on does the message centre say the door is open (you need the engine running)??

When I open the drivers door it takes between 10secs to 30secs before the message comes up and then the light will come on but the passanger door NO LIGHT NO MESSAGE. can i reset the doors without disconecting the battery.

It sounds like the microswitch mechanism in the door latch is sticking - when the car is running and you open the passenger door try changing to a different ride height and see if it changes. If it does then it most probably is the microswitch.

Depending on how DIY you are you can have a go at fixing it yourself, see the thread below for an example of what I mean...

If you search more on rangerovers.net forums you will see more threads on the door latch repair.

If you dont fancy doing a DIY reapir then just replace the latch, they are around £150 if i remember correctly. Personally I would replace the latch, if the microswitch is badly worn enough to register as not open or constantly open then the doorlatch is probably pretty old and it would be wise to replace it before the whole thing fails completely. Even if it doesnt fail yet it might get stuck and cause the door to register as open all the time which is a real pain, not only because of the annoying beeps telling you the door is open when its not, it also means the EAS wont work properly, it wont self level etc.

Hi wills

Opened the door and changed the hight like you said and there is no difference. Do you know the part No or type of microswitch I need as it appears that the rear left door is now doing the same so I think I will just replace all the switches.

P.S anything to be aware of when takeing the door card off.

There is no difference?? Do you mean it doesnt change height or it does??

You cant buy the microswitch seperately, you need to buy the whole latch assembly meaning you would need to replace each latch that seems to be slow as registering open. Im away at the moment so cant find out the part numbers for you im afraid. If you ring up any LR dealer they should be able to tell you. You can then source them yourself or buy from LR.

hi wills

The car does change hight there is no problem with the EAS. I have just used WD40 on all the locks and they all seem reasonable except the passanger one which doesn't really move as if it is on a spring. I think the latch on that door needs replaced.
