My 1985 county's inside light only comes on with the switch to the right of the steering wheel. Never comes on when I actually need it hence the torch!

If it's like mine then the light comes on when either front door is opened and also the switch is a three way ... on when door opens, permanently on and permanently off. Switch is on the panel in front of my right knee. Assuming your Landy is the SII in your avatar I don't know what you should have in there sorry.

On my 2001 defender 110, the interior lights used to come on when either of the front doors opened and it used to stay on for about 15 seconds or so after closing the door or until ignition was switched on....... This bit was controlled by the 10AS security ECM.

As I had a few starting issues with my TD5, when I first got her, I had reason to believe (wrongly as it happened) that the 10AS might have been a cause (sometimes my interior light would work, sometimes not and most times it didn't neither would the engine. So I by-passed the interior light control and now it comes on and off with the doors or the built-in switch. This made no difference to the engine or the light, but eventually I found that the metal strip in the back of the light unit was corroded and that was the cause of my light failing sometimes and working other times.

Also, I believe the door-operation of the interior light is programmable within the 10AS, I'm sure I saw something about this in my Hawkeye.

Does your light work with the driver's door?
If so, take off the passenger door-switch and clean it's contacts (just turning the screw that holds it in might make it work.)
