Last week my oil light was flicking on and of so decided I should do a full oil change and filter change seemed to sort things until today when the oil light started flicking on and off again, checked oil levels and they are fine, what else would make the oil light come on.

Also there is a strange clanking noise coming from the drivers side, front wheel. Have had two garages look for the origin of the noise, including a land rover specialist both of whom can't find the noise. The bushes are fine, springs fine, break pad secure. The noise is a metal on metal irregular clanking which would make you think break pad or disk but as I said both are secure. Was wondering if anybody else had come across the problem before and gave a solution.

The land rover specialists had the car on the ramps, had the wheel of, took it for several spins and were still none the wiser. Said he would have to strip the wheel down to track it, only thing he could think of was the cv joint, any guides on that?

As said before, change your oil pressure switch and hope that's the problem, if not you have a blockage/pump problem.
But do it soon!!

Read on the the user manual that it could be the gear box is over heating, and it did start after I towed a heavy trailer, could it be the gear box needs an oil change?

Just had a look at the oil and dispite only being changed last week with new filters as well it's looking a bit dirty

Seems to be Related To temperature as the oil light flicks on and if when the vehicle starts from cold after the engine heats up the oil light stops coming on

Oil pressure light on usually means low oil pressure...That`s what it`s there for! It could be a faulty switch, as said, 5 minutes and coupla quid to replace... low oil pressure will result in major bills if not addressed quickly. Seems to me unlikely to be missing bolt as this would result in total pump failure, not just low pressure. Oil thins out with temperature, resulting in less pressure, this is normal, but NOT to the extent of warning coming on.
If in doubt get it looked at. Don`t run at low oil pressure. Engines are more expensive than 1/2 hour labour in a garage.
