I'm off to get my first landy, however on further reading the description of the item (eBay) a mechanic mate of mine told me to check a few things before i part with my hard earned.

The listing is for 1993 landrover defender 90 Tdi.

In the listing it says it has a disco 200 engine and gear box.. Fine as I know people can get conversions done etc. However in the details it says it's a discovery. It also mentions it's shortened. I wasn't 100% sure what this was till my friend pointed out that it could be a shortened disco chassis thus using a disco chassis number and plate. Just with a 90 shell. The item doesnt really explain this and for a newbie like myself can be confusing and misleading. I have not done a HPI yet.

If it is a 'hybrid' should I walk away?

My mechanic friend said it would be harder to get parts to fix it should I need to and poss difficult to insure. I thought I was buying just a 90 with a disco engine / box. Bit more difficult than I thought.

Cheers for the tips

Alex

All sounds a bit odd...i'm going to guess that 'shortened' has nothing to do with the chassis but it refers to the gearbox...i.e he's used a disco gearbox and shortened it so that the gearstick sits where it should rather than in the middle seat!

I'd call/write and ask EXACTLY what it states on the V5.

ebay link is the best idea! he might not have changed anything on the V5, so it dcould be either a disco or a fender"!

I believe you are right.
I believe its a grand too much.
I believe the buyer is in for problems when sourcing bits.

BTW..noticed the sellers name?

uppsss!!!!

just checked on insurance website, you put that license plate and comes back as a 93 landrover discovery!

also looks like a series rear cross member on the back of that thing ?!, i wouldnt buy a truck that someone else has messed with again ! by all means mess with it yourself but you cant trust their work and mine was in a **** state :/

Looks like a pick up rear tub too. Thats as hooky as they come. It should at the very least be on a Q plate, if its legit.

With all due respect....

I wouldn't touch that with a 10ft sterilized barge pole!

But you have won the auction, the seller has the right to feel a little aggrieved if you change your mind now.

If it comes back as hooky, inspect and walk away-report as ringer

Well, I'm gonna stick my neck out and say it's this one...
