ok first thing is the Right rear quarter panel...

how hard is it to get off?
based on the picture is it worth repairing and repainting?

now on to the rear gate in the 2nd photo you can see ripples in it...

Would it be possible to get those out?

ither by accessing the inside and banging them out or using some kinda dent removal technique ?

Second hand tailgate would be my route, looks well beat up. As for the rear quarter panel, I've no idea what could be done with that.

I have a similar dent in my rear quarter panel and I'm just thinking how to go about it too.

I think the best bet would be to try and knock as much of it out from the inside, and then filler sanding, sanding, sanding, and more sanding. In my limited experience it's almost impossible to "feather" paint in and so I always try to joint new paint to old under some trim, or at a weld seam.

If you took off the e post finisher, rear light, petrol flap, and the top bumper finisher, masked everything else off I think you could get away with just spraying whats left, and the various seams/ finishers would cover the joins in the paint.

It all depends how good a job you want to make of it of course. Best result is to take the wing off, and paint accordingly, but that is an AWFUL lot of work for a 15 year old car. I think you'd have to drill out the spot welds, etc etc.

In the short term, whilst you're thinking about what to do, you should sand and paint the rust. Do it now so it doesn't get any worse.

the tailgate can be done with the hot glue method ( google it ) the rear quarter will need pry bars dollies planishing spoon and about 20 years practice,,, but both are repairable,,,,, tailgate shouldnt need to be painted 1/4 will
