Now I know I'm going to get fit a "tdi" and all the other comments and I have searched but they are all old posts so here goes.

My Defender has a FD35T engine fitted has anyone found out where to buy things like oil filters, injectors etc from or even a manual would be even good. I would like to give it a service so oil? filter?

Has anyone else got one that can help?

Do you know what the engine was originally out of, would be a good start FD sounds like its a Nissan or a Toyota engine so you may get the oil and fuel filters from the dealer's or contact either Milner 4x4 ( Derbyshire ) or Simonites ( Yorks ) as I think they used to and may still fit these engines into landy's :)
 
Sounds like a Nissan engine code to me. If I'm not mistaken it was a 3.5 litre turbo diesel that was a popular fitment in the late 1990s
 
Suspect the internet will be your best friend here.

Seems the FD35T is a Nissan engine and not used in Europe. So I suspect buying parts might be an issue. Maybe Nissan or an importer can help, unless someone specialises in them. Else you'll have to buy online.

Wiki seems to suggest it was only fitted to one vehicle, but that might not be true:

Makes you wonder how people in the UK ever go hold of them. Also looking at the published specs, I have no understanding of why people would go to the effort in swapping in this engine in the first place.

In turbo form it makes 128bhp and 217ft lb. Less than a stock Disco Td5. The displacement might mean it has more low end grunt, but can't see it being all that different.

If you have a non turbo then it's only marginally more powerful than an old 2.5TD Land Rover.

I wonder if it would be worthwhile pulling the engine and selling it on to some mug. And putting a Land Rover engine back in it.
 
IMHO, you could get the numbers off the existing filters, or go to plant and machinery parts firm... for example, round here, we have this lot:-

who are very good at finding equivalent filters for all sorts of weird and wonderful stuff...

But i think I agree with @300bhp/ton - that possibly the best solution is re-fitting a 300Tdi - they can be tuned well above the specs of the FD, given above. Parts availability is then very good.
 
Thanks for all the help so far, from what I can gather the engine was from a Nissan Cabstar, I agree that in the long term an engine swap may be the way to go but as I have just bought it I wanted to service it and see how it goes i.e just an oil and filter swap but I am struggling to find any useful information anywhere. The engine swap was obviously done professionally or to a VERY high standard at some point I guess when the last engine packed up.
I will use the contacts you have given and see where I go from there.....

Curious though, how can you buy a vehicle, you said you've just got the Defender. With a weird engine swap in, and not have done research before buying it, on where you might get parts and spares for it?

I did do some research and I was fully aware that this may well be case of taking the engine out and putting a tdi in but I thought before doing that as the engine is running I could just run it until it packs up completely but I wanted to just do and oil change before running it. As I am not made of money this would also give me time to save a bit more money for engine swap. I bought this one as the body work and chassis are all pretty good for the age and it was within my budget. If I had more money I would have bought a better car but unfortunately life is not always like that!
 
For the sake of sourcing some consumables I reckon it's worth it, you never know you might really like the motor and hate a tdi, figures ain't always everything.
