I have been having turbo trouble strange noises and lack of power so went on flea-Bay and if i'm honest rushed into my purchase thinking it was a recon unit, only to find out after hitting the "Buy it now" button that infact it was a "NEW" Turbo made in China.
I have had a quick look on tinternet about these Chinese units and there seems mixed reviews some say quality is at best crap and at best very good.
the problem is now I have been away and the Rangy has been local garage for over a week so had turbo delivered there and it now fitted the garage owner has tested it on the road and said it runs sweet and was a direct copy of the original.

Anyone had any experience of these units? I'm guessing only time will tell if my £385 was a bargain or disaster...

Not had any experience on the turbos, but make sure you change (or get the garage to) the crankcase breather filter (assuming it's a TD6) as this can cause turbo issues...

yes he mentioned this filter and new oil and new oil filter + air filter too so its got the best start I could give it, I hope.

just thought an update was in order

well the Chinese turbo is working fine the old one the bearings had gone thus seals gone and smoke was coming out the back like the Vatican electing a new Pope.

I suppose the true test of this cheap turbo will be time and miles but up to now its running 100%.

Could be just like a britpart

Probably from the same factory as OEM Bearing failure is often down to not letting the turbo cool at the end of a run, always let the engine idle for a minute or so before turning off.
