Hi All , I tried to replace a core plug in my 300tdi but the core plug just slides into it's proper final position without any pressure . I reckon a tap of a hammer would send it into the block . I'm assured the plug is the correct one for the engine , it measures just under 53mm . Could I use a slightly oversized plug , or use some sort of epoxy to keep it secure ? Thanks , Gerry .

its either wrong plug or a poor one ,erc4996 is the number and they need to be a tap in fit using a slightly smaller socket than the plug ,its best to loctite plugs first, it needs to be correct fit as the pressure makes outer each of plug grip the block ,which is why they should be just further in than flush

I fitted a britpart core plug a couple of years ago and was worried because it didn't seem a tight fit. leaked.

I'd bought a few and after some investigation realised that although they were the right size and there was very minimal variation in diameter there was no flaring on the shoulder and so weren't a proper pressed fit.

Sourced a few from and engine tuners workshop not too far away and did it again properly.

measured the plug and it's 52.7 mm , anyone reckon if it's worth sending away for the next size up 53.98 , or should I go straight for the jb weld ?

Should be 53mm. I suspect you have a poor quality plug like I did. Source a better one
