how much coolant does a td5 discovery need. i want to make sure i have enough antifreeze before i start on waterpump.

cheers

Cooling system - Td5 Engine:
Refill 8 litres
Fill from dry 13 litres

The overall anti-freeze concentration should not fall,
by volume, below 50% to ensure that the anti-corrosion
properties of the coolant are maintained.
Anti-freeze concentrations greater than 60% are not
recommended as cooling efficiency will be impaired.
The following recommended quantities of anti-freeze
will provide frost protection to -4
8C (-53F):

Engine - TD5
Concentration 50%
Amount of Anti-freeze 4 litres

thanks sierra

so when i go from empty it will 6.5 litres @ 50%. its been postponed temporarally(maybe) as ructions indoors and am slowly getting ****ed.

Even when doing waterpump you are not starting from dry, there will be lots left in engine and a fair bit in radiator tbh.

Best way is just to mix 5 litres with 5 litres of water and see how you go, then keep the rest for spare (some td5s mysteriously lose coolant anyway)

Remember it needs to be the red colour OAT stuff. Nothing to do with weetabix though.

Cheers.

is there a way of checking how much antifreeze is in there, I've just had the cam belt replaced so they would have refilled the coolent?
