Hey Guys and Gals,

I have a really weird problem here...

Last Week, I checked the engine oil (over half full), coolant (over half full) and the power steering (full as usual) and this morning I checked again...the coolant is completely dry!

I checked under the Freelander and I did not find any marks of any leaking so what happened with all that coolant???

I have rarely used my Freelander the last two weeks (because Uni for my course finished two weeks ago) so I just can't see how the engine would of used all the coolant.

Right now, I have not topped up the coolant yet just in case there's something I don't know about.

Anyone with any suggestions (relating to this problem) are welcome.
 
DopeyDawgs your man - it most likely evaporated in the heat:rolleyes:

or else it could be in your oil, or it could have been pushed out by over-pressurization:eek:. But it would help if you told us what injun yo got.

1.) Check on passinger side if floor mat is wet and oily - heater matrix dead or some rubber tube inside of the car. MAYBE you will smell some sweat odore ... coolant smell

2.) What kind of engine you have? - if it is V6 there can be manifold gaskets failure and coolant evaporate from hot engine or thermostat housing is cracked and coolant leak from there and evaporate as I wrote, if it is 1.8 then you may have Head gasket failure

I have to add this ...

If it is TD4 ... I have no idea.

According to HGF ... Before I accuse your car to HGF please go through posts to get information how to diagnose if you have oil in coolant or coolant in oil ...
 
As said engine type would help...if its a V6 im sure MHM will have a number of garages wiling but not able to fix...also plenty of piccies that indicate how to spot knackered thermostat (just do a search on MHM posts);)
 
Righty, I have a 2001 Freelander with a 1.8 litre engine.

Interesting that you should mention about the Head Gasket because I think had that replaced last year in September.
 
If your head gasket had been changed then look around heater or blower on passenger side. Your heater matrix may have a leak. According to what you sad that you have not seen any liquid under your Freelander.

There is also possible that is HG problem. Did you went back to garage after, let's say 1000 to 2000 miles, to check screws on head and to tighten then again?

I hope you find leaking before any serious engine troubles.
 
Righty, I almost forgot to reply here but it seem I have fixed the problem. What happened was due to wear and tear...the 'safety overheat release valve' in the cap of the coolant was stuck into the open position so that when the engine started to cook, all of the coolant mixture inside the coolant tank evaporated. So I replaced the cap for the coolant and it has been fine ever since.

Hope this helps anyone else who have this sort of problem

Yeah common prob, lots vents out via the cap, apparently after the system over-pressurises (over heats) the valve spring doesnt re-seat itself. They do go with age, some MG boys change the cap every 12 months.
