I admit this is a bit of a stupid question, so apologies in advance.

I noticed my TD5 coolant header tank is only about quarter-full in relation to the min/max markings and so I want to top it up. I have some OAT coolant pre-mixed with water in a 50/50 mix (I used to carry a lot round for my old freelander 1.8! ;) ).

Looking in the header tank in the TD5 Disco, it looks like it's the same bright orange/red OAT coolant. Can I just top up with my pre-mixed coolant mixture, or is it necessary to completely bleed and start again from scratch then top up from there to avoid mixing different types of coolant (event if they are all OAT)?

Hope this makes sense, advice would be appreciated!

Organic Acid Technology. It contains, as you may suspect, organic acids and nothing inorganic.

....And for those without a chemistry degree, the best definition of an organic molecule is one that has carbon hydrogen bonds. Inorganic molcules generally don't.

This means OAT anti-freeze contains stuff like 2-ethylhexanoic acid but no silicates or phosphates.

It is usually dyed something other than the traditional green.

OAT gives better protection to cooling systems with cast iron or aluminium components and lasts longer than green anti-freeze.

And even with this antifreeze lr say it still has to be changed every 36,000 miles, just like the old stuff.
