I patched it and then put K seal in and since then all is good, as in its a few thousand miles between top ups now. I do have some block sealant but I've not needed it yet. The repair has been holding for over 5k miles now. It's really nice having a hot heater this winter as well.

Nice, good job jobbed!

At the risk of relaunching an old thread by a newby.. was the final conclusion in this case chasing shadows? I have exactly the same issue/non issue and going through same questions in my mind of cool header tank and sections in rad.

Now convinced despite gauge showing top of red, engine isn't overheating (75degC outside of thermostat housing with IR gun), it's just weird hangover of discovery transplant. It's a new stat, tested in water and a new water pump. Heater matrix gets lovely and warm.

Read so much on this forum due to genius posters so thanks again to all.

Search on here for capilliary temperature gauge, dead accurate and approx 35 quid off of ebay search for Tim capilliary gauge.

As Lynall says fit an aftermarket gauge that reads in number's/degrees and know what the actual temp is at all times.
