i have the same as Dooroy, a slight leak but i am getting an occasional drip under the car. Then another time its perfectly dry. Finally tracked it down to the bottom corner of the rad, between the rad and intercooler. New rad going on tomorrow and full service, weather permitting.

Ok thanks guys. My top hose does pressurize but can squeeze it a little ut then does de pressurize when cooling back down. I have had all plastic cowlings off and cannot see any obvious leaks. Also been underneath looking up and still nothing. I have also seen read on another forum that the seal behind the water pump can go and if it does you cannot see the leak!!??
Not had the car long and its already cost me for fuel pressure regulator, two new air suspension springs and now this. like i say i dont mind paying to have it done its just annoying. Hopefully my local landy specialists will find out what it is and hopefully get it sorted. Thanks again for your help!

Disco In the garage this morning and have had a phone call to say that the water pump is leaking. I didnt see it leaking but i have missed the big brown patch underneath it where it has been running down. Must be evaporating as steam so hopefully its sorted get it back in the morning so we will soon find out.
Thanks again for all your help guys!!

My local Landy specialist told me this morning that it should be roughly £450 to do the head gasket if it was the head gasket plus more if it needed headwork i.e skimming etc. Got to be worth the money having it skimmed while its off anyway in my book.
I just hope that the water pump is definately the main problem and not somewhere else the coolant is leaking from as well as the head. Oh well suppose i will soon find out.
Forgive me for being thick but the plastic dowells that are blamed for heads moving etc. If this is the case what are the head bolts doing? Are they not torqued up to the correct setting which should prevent movement any way?
And once a head is removed how can you definately tell that the gasket was passing/leaking due to the dowells?
sorry if im being stupid but i just cant get my own head around that one?

Thanks again

Me and my bloody big mouth. Garage ran engine up to temperature today just to make sure about water pump and noticed top hose pressurised so did sniffer test and yes result was positive. So head is now being ripped off and we will see what else they find!!!

All cylinder heads as far as I know ues dowels for location - to keep the Cyl head from moving .
The bolts have some clearance in the holes they pass through in the head - and they provide a clamping force . But with the bolts alone the head could move relative to the block .
So the dowels have an important job to do ( you will find them used on block to bellhousing joints , starter motors etc .) . It was unfortunate that the 'designers' originally used plastic dowels , which often failed , allowing cyl head to move and causing HG to fail .

:doh::doh::doh:

Fingers crossed it's only the HG.

Ratty i have got every finger, toe, arms and legs crossed that it is just HG. i am so hoping its just because of those stupid plastic dowells:mad:! I am going down tomorrow to have a little look see.
thanks

Got my truck back today, all sorted so lets see what happens. Plastic dowells were well shagged. nice shiny steel ones now.
Thanks again for all the replies and good advice on this topic!!
