My 2000 Freelander 1.8 has a coolant leak that produces a fine spray around the back of the alternator. It seem too high to be HG & is close to the exhaust manifold. Is there anything else, other than cracked head !!!!, around that area that could be leaking ?.

There is no evidence of HGF. Coolant is clean, no emulsion in oil, & running well.

Mine also has this problem ive now taken the head off for a new head gasket.. what else could it of been? i hope it was the HG now..

It was my head gasket i got my head gasket from lindleys too and my head skimmed there i got a duff one the first time which was the one that was leaking so make sure you check it over first.

How come you bought a new had was it cracked?

I am in Ireland & any garage here will charge the earth to test & skim a head. Then they are likely to say that it's cracked even if it isn't. Also it takes about a week to ten days so vehicle is off the road.

I decided that it was better to get a head & uprated gasket to minimise labour time.

I am concerned that you had grief with Lindleys as their ebay rating is 100%. Was the gasket duff or the head skim ?

Is there a lindleys in ireland? for a test and skim i think its £70 for just a skim its £45 and he did it in a day for me.

It was the gasket it seemed flatter and sort of out of shape on the bit that was near the leak i never even moved the car and it was leaking the new gasket i fitted today is fine though.. ive had a few heads skimmed there and theyhave allways done a good job the £45 includes stripping the head down also there a bit cheaper if you do it.
