Hi!
Has anyone else had this and could you tell me what gaskets etc I need to effect a cure?
I don't think it's the pump or its housing just the connection between the pump and the block, inside the mounting block.
all contributions will be gratefully received!
Stan

Mate!!
Thanks!!!
and that "bolt adhesive patch" thing is where the drips are as well as in the valley.
If anyone knows what and why a "bolt adhesive patch" is I'd be grateful.
If I'm going to have to take the mount off then I may need some of those too.
Thanks again!:):):):)

In my M&E world we called them ‘creep gasket, in the parts book they are or were called Gasket Creep and they do eventually fail.
And keep to the correct torque setting what ever size of the bolt.

You are welcome!

I thought the bolts may be with threadlock already applied, but looking at pictures at various suppliers seem to show an ordinary flanged head bolt so I can't imagine what they are!

I hope you get it sorted.

It appears that pump retaining bolt in question goes through the water jacket, therefore this bolt has a seal below its flange …why LR called it a patch who knows.
Removing this bolt will or should drain the cooling system sufficiently to carry out the pump removal.
With my D1 engine LR state use a waterproof thread seal on the three bolts that go through its water jacket, no need for thread lock or sealer on the other bolts.
So check whats required in the D2 manual.

Yet again, cheers, Mate!
I think they may need some gunk on em to stop leaks the sort of stuff you put around sump flanges etc,
I'll see when I get to it.
Someone else thinks it might simply be the coolant pump and seeing as how it is prolly 170K miles old, I think it will be retired again when I can get to it!!
Having read what @discool said I am now even more nervous about those bolts. I have checked in Rave and Haynes and no one even mentions touching these bolts. You can get the water pump out without touching them, just have to remove the cover. ("just" after removing the centrifugal oil filter, the turbo and moving the Air Con pump!)
I also have no idea, particularly in France what to get that would be waterproof. Plumber's Mait?
At the moment I am not sure if it is leaking from the weep hole, the whole bastid thing is so difficult to get to and even with mirrors etc I cannot see it. The best I could do would be to try and feel it but that would have to be with the engine running and everything, tight hot and vibrating around it. The bolts don't look any different but maybe they are.
When I did the job on my D1 300tdi there was none of this stuff, just the famous P gasket which really wasn't a problem, and I only changed the pump because I had removed the old one to cure the leak. Maybe @discool you were talking about your V8?

I had this problem on my old Defender. The water was leaking from the pump shaft into the cavity between the water pump and the power steering pump.

With the design of the pump being what it is, i.e. driven by lugs off the end of a shaft going through the power-steering pump, do I take it you just changed the pump?

This is what I’m replying to, as you suspect that you have a coolant leak around this area of a single bolt.
Once the fan and the belt is removed u have access to the coolant pump if u have to replace it.
I just just looked on uTube, simple.
My mention of my V8 is just for comparison of the method used to retain the coolant pump to the block .

Maybe my mistake, but I thought I had mentioned that there is also coolant in the valley behind the strut/mount/thing.
I have since found various products here in France that are like waterproof Loctite, which i could put on the bolts.
I put in post #8 what else you have to take off to get at it. No need to take either the fan or even the belt off.
This is aTD5, so I don't know how a youtube can say take the fan and the belt off, it's behind the PS pump and driven by it, nowhere near the front of the engine. I don't think I'll have to take the mount off unless changing the pump doesn't cure it. Even then, changing the bolts and the seal number ERR6711 should cure it. Might even be able to change the seal without having to remove the bolts.
I'll only know if I have to take it apart!

Link to removing a Td5 water pump should u need to. As stated in my previous post.

Just looked, not a TD5 engine. "4046 engine, Gems and Bosch blah di blah ...". In fact according to sources it's a version of one of the V8s.
So completely different, sadly. My one is the one in the link on post #2.:(:(

Opps sorry. I did see the link in # 2, so the link I posted had a similar single bolt so followed that as a lead and did think a Td5 is as easy as my engine It will teach me to keep quiet now on a vehicle I’ve never owned.:D

So another link which states Td5 water pump and PS pump which by now I expect u have already seen.
