well i guess it's staying on the driveway for now, fortunately i have another.

i'll have a solid read through the crock of ****e thread,

can i make contact via phone first or is strictly written.

part of me says to give up and get a refund, then part of me says i want these assles to foot the bill (& hoping it will be enormous) thought i was buying a descent car.

Step back from emotions and I would suggest a polite letter recorded delivery or an email as both have proof of what is said

You need to explain that the car has an issue and you stopped immediately you became aware of it.

Ask them as the vehicle is under warranty what they propose to do to resolve the issue.

There is other avenues, but you need calm polite contact to allow trader a fair opportunity to resolve your problem

Point out your making them aware of the issue and would like a prompt reply so the issue can be resolved as soon as reasonably possible

it was all fine leaving the dealership a few days back (60 miles) & left it overnight to find a wet patch on the drive, thought nothing of it but thinking about it now.. it did smell a little like windscreen fluid? could've been a coolant leak?

if it cools at speed could also be poorly cooling rad .low coolant and water pump exposing temp sender ,a few things to check ,

James good advice, but in this case the vehicle should not be touched as under warranty and it muddys the water if you go looking round it.

I suspect a failed water pump or similar- either way it has cooked by steam remark of 10 minutes- better the warranty deals with it

Eugh,

i've browsed the crock thread, trying to piece together a "letter" that allows me to ask for repairs rather than a refund, i paid a really great price for this car & wouldn't be able to find a similar one for the same money.

now i know why -_-

never hurts to look at obvious simple things first ,not saying strip engine down but it could be a ****ter or nice truck with pooor rad in which case

if you saw the vehicle, you wouldn't believe it's age, it's in magnificent conditon, it looks years newer than it is and drives it too..

it's just this cooling issue that appears to be a problem.

Which side of the car or centre...difficult I know as there is a splash sheild under the engine!??

I am thinking Water Pump or split rad...

I have done the Rad, Stat and Pump on mine....had similar symptoms

also, for the sake of making sure the "symptoms" are accurate, at high speed the needle does not return to centre, just comes 3-5mm away from the red side of the gauge.

Taste it!!

Bitter sweet is coolant...soapy is washer fluid...mine pops the washer fluid pipe off the pump dumping all the washer fluid onto the floor.....

The Washer tank is passanger side, but then again so is the expansion tank and overflow!

i don't think it's washer fluid, i can't be certain and it's a bit late to be out sniffing my driveway :p but yeah, it would make sense to have a coolant leak as they'd put that sealant down the coolant tank & the fact that earlier 5L of coolant went in the tank & hours later it went back up to being hot again, conveniently after wetting the driveway

The expansion tanks are known to split....

As fanatic says first thing is to contact the dealer...

Fanatic is a genius with legal stuff, so heed his advise, it is worth its weight in gold!

You have the basics in my previous post

you just want to state the problem appears to be a coolant issue and you stopped immediately on noticing the the temperature gauge rise.

As the vehicle is under warranty, you wish to make them aware of the problem and would like a reply to arrange the vehicle to be repaired under warranty.

Don't put anything emotional or rude in the letter/email as you don't want to cause offense if it is genuinely an unfortunate mechanical failure.

Further to this -do not put rad weld etc in as you could mask further problems where it cooked

also, for the sake of making sure the "symptoms" are accurate, at high speed the needle does not return to centre, just comes 3-5mm away from the red side of the gauge.

Follow the advice given by Fanatic i.e. the recorded delivery letter calling up the guarantee. they have to get first crack at putting right any defect. If somebody else starts taking things apart it will be asserted that the original seller is no longer responsible for the fault.
This course might be inconvenient in the short term but in the long run is the only course to take.

;) Don't forget "The Mad Hat Man" (MHM) between us we have got numerous people's vehicles repaired or their money back.

I'd like to plug also my site Faulty-Product.co.uk - Advice From Experience Site as it saves me posting it every time:p
