I was wondering if anyone could tell me how easy it would b to change the engine in a defender from a 200tdi to a td5? and if anyone has done it was it worth it or is it better to buy one with a td5 engine??

good luck , i,ve been down that road buy one with it factory fitted unless you know some one with a diagnostic computer if you get one fault where you hav,nt fitted a wire or something , you will need to clear the fault , just hings like that are a night mare unless you want a challange.

hope this helps

p,s good luck if u have a go

i said the same 200 tdi rule , good engine i,ll say that , but i bort a TD5 defender got it chipped , i,ll never go back fast is,nt the word!!!!

Got my TD5 sorted by Gary at TD5Alive and it is a monster.
Plenty of low down torque and capable of a genuine 100+ mph (sat nav confirmed) if you want it to.
Turbo boosts to 1.4 bar and is as reliable as any other motor I've owned.
I'd have to say it goes better than my SIIA fitted with a 3.5 V8 ever did and is way better on fuel.
Even sounds the mutts nuts with the full flow exhaust fitted.

Stick with 200tdi, you would be a fool to try change it. If you have your heart set on more speed then your better off buying a land rover with a td5, or a bugatti veyron ;)

give you some idear of power difference i,ve got a 2002 110 crew cab td5 , now my mates of which have a both 200 and 300 tdis can,t keep up with me and thats with me towing my ifor williams trailor loaded with my series 1 winch challange motor thats the power for you , and its never let me down like anything you look after it it will look after you!

Something must be wrong with their tdis. Friend of mine has a TD5 disco witch is stage 2 chipped witch is remapping the ecu and full width intercooler. just under 200bhp. My 200tdi 90 witch just has a tweaked full pump will keep up acceleration just, he is about half a second quicker to 60 than me.

Friend has a full width intercooler in his 200tdi and that flys
