300 tdi is the best engine imo to fit , v8 and 300 tdi both sit forward unlike 200 tdi and previous so all props floor plates, tunnel, seabtox etc are ok ,you will need to weld fresh mounts on chassis ,gear box is best changed for 300 one but could be converted (what box is fitted now ),300 tdi is a good engine and give little trouble with a decent rad fitted , ive done quite a few so if theres anything you need to know just ask

Good rad , and new cambelt good as gold , if sourcing from a disco (usual as they rot out) the later autos are EDC , although not a big problem either way you sort it JMHO

yeah but most 300tdis that become donor vehicles have been to the moon and back twice...

its worth a head refit if just that..

why head unless it has symptoms of hgf ,if you wanted to check replace anything apart from berlt and service items it would be crank bearings ,which is an easy job on a 300tdi ,i look after a farmer with a fleet of 300s towing halylage around the country daily 6ton average train weight ,over the years hes had very little trouble and when he has its half shafts ,cvs, drive members etc he swears by them especially with economy compared to other engines ,

If it ain't broke don't fix it, our one went for 220000 before someone used it as a donor when the body fell off  the engine still had plenty of power and didn't burn a drop of oil, yeah a nice 4.2 lump would be awesome so much power avalable and 170hp standard, I'd love that engine !

its not a matter of not broke dont fix ,the first you often get to know bearings are poor is when it knocks which is far too late ,but if i expected to do some mileage id check, many a high mileage 300 only needs £40 worth of crank bearings to ensure another long life

A good check over yes, filters, cambelt ect but I wouldn't go about changing bottom end bearings ect with no shown cause obviously its the easiest time to change things whilst the engine is out as I am rebuilding an engine currently to go into my truck :)

Although if I was putting our high mileage 300 into one of my vehicles I would be tempted to do the crank bearings but ones with lower mileage I wouldn't bother

I believe it is fitted with the LT77S, but may be LT85 not sure how to tell the difference. Will the 300 fit the LT77?

lt 85 is all ali cased, lt77 only has ali bell housing and rear extension housing,v8 bell housing wont bolt up directly to a diesel and input shaft for the diesel is 22mm and v8 input 19mm ish ,if it was an lt77 it could be converted by fittin another input shaft and bell housing ,or a straight swap for an 300 r380
