Hey there, I'm back! The series is gone, but I can't shake it and now, I want a Deffy, 90.

I know these come up all the time but here we go.

I'm 20, one years no claims, insurance is a nightmare as it as so question one isn't to do with insurance at all!

Is it worth me getting a post 1990 model for the TDI engine? I can see the figures of power difference etc but is it worth it? I've found a nice '88 but I'm unsure of the engine etc, would it be able to keep up? What about motorway speed would it make it to that? Without the series "can do 55 if you're going down a hill" syndrome?

Or alternatively are there many defenders, pre 90 (for insurance reasons) with TDI engines? I can't seem to find any is my problem (yet to check the for sale section on here)

Also considering the above, my age and insurance issue (I know I promised no insurance bits but hey you get what you pay for) what are your opinions on these two Landys, anything obviously glaringly good or bad?

My apologies if I've pasted the wrong links my phones being a bit slow about things

Thanks!

You definitely want a Tdi as opposed to a Td or N/A.

The difference is massive in terms of power, reliability and economy. A Tdi will give you around 30mpg whereas earlier engines struggle past 20-25.

Your best bet would be a 1980s model retrofitted with a 200 Tdi. ;)

Plenty of them about, I knew they were about just wasn't sure if it was worth it. I'll keep an eye out (and my hand out of my wallet) for a while anyway.

Thanks :)

Yeah, go for a tdi, if you think you have got it hard with insurnace, try being 17 with a 90 200tdi. bloody nightmare. Dont think I am even going to be able to drive my 90 for a year or so while I build a years no claims. -.- . Chavs ruin it for us you know.
