For every one that's stollen there's hundreds (if not thousands) that are never touched. Yes they attract more attention than your average banger but don't be put off. Insure it at a value you're happy with. Put some decent security on it and be sensible and you'll get plenty of fun (and it is a shed load of fun) out of it.

Have adequate agreed value cover on mine, so I don't worry about it being stolen from my drive, but I use it to tow our caravan and I am constantly worried that it gets stolen when on holiday, with the consequent bother of getting the caravan home. If stolen I wouldn't replace it.

ive just convinced she who will be obeyed;),that the living room window would be nice replaced with a bi folding floor to ceiling door type jobbie :rolleyes::rolleyes:then ,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,il work on her to do a solid polished concrete floor ,,,then move my lanny in :D:D:D:D:D

At least you don't have to worry about your hub caps going missing:p I would invest in a good webcam to train on the defender or cctv equally trained on the defender. This way you will have some peace of mind explaining to pc plod of recorded evidence. Make most of your time securing inside pedal locks and steering and also fitting a retractable post you can lock the landy too. I guess most scum who steal will either pulled push a dead vehicle with a removals truck with a winch unit. You must have an understanding insurance company  like me in manchester having landy and postcode is like oil and water:mad:

I personally don't think CCTV adds much. I'd invest more in 'hardware' security. CCTV generally just tells you that two hooded and masked men have broken into your landy and driven away in it, which you knew anyhow. Might be helpful if they had another vehicle or tow truck you can get a reg off but most likely fake plates.

Thanks guys really helped a lot, ( not taking the **** either)
I guess Insure it and do as much as possible your right if they want it they'll take it,
I have a van park outside my house with all my tools in every night, only alarmed and deadlock doors and I don't worry about that, bcos as you lot have said it's insured,

Depending on how your parking is arranged - is there any potential to use the van to block the defender in?

Have never felt the need to do this with a car - but do it from time to time if I have trailers on the drive that dont have decent locks!!

To be honest I have a double drive with a wall along one half and grass behind it, ( so only one car can park on it) thinking to leave the wall up re do the garden to allow both a car and my defender on it and putting a post behind it,
If not my father in law has got a drive with double gates so could park it in there and padlock and chain the gates shut??

Used to lock mine, got fed up of finding broken windows, mashed up door locks, mullered ignition barrels etc. Now I don't lock it I've never had a problem since. It's as if they think it's too easy a steal, police bait motor etc. End of the day if they really want it it'll they'll get it regardless. No matter what your security you have there's always a crafty k nut that will figure a way around it. Buy it, insure it, and most importantly bloody well enjoy it!!

The more posts that people put up, the change of attitude towards it I'm having your right insure it do what you can and hope,
There's a fella down the road from me with a 110 13 plate van that just siting on the grass outside his house
