Not sure where to post, so apologies if this is in the wrong place.

I just purchased a new compressor (item 48089 at Screwfix). It came with some tools.

I quickly realised the fittings were euro quick fittings, where as the norm is the longer connectors which i am told are british.

As i got a new impact wrench, i thought it best to 'convert' to the british system as parts are easier to get. However, after changing the quick fitting on my compressor, air line and wrench, i realised the fittings on the tools which came with the compressor have a different screw fitting, so the 1/4 inch bsp quick fittings don't fit!

Anybody know what the screw fitting is for the tools that came free? Its smaller than the 1/4 fittingsĀ…..

My cheapie compressor came with the euro style HiFlow couplers. I just stayed with those and made up an adaptor so that if I borrowed a tool with the std british PCL type connector I could use it. You can get the couplers from UKHS or amazon.

I don't know what the thread is on the tools (look the same as what I got) though, sorry

how did you make an adaptor? Given most other tools will come with a standard bsp fitting, i think i will try and stick to that as standard and maybe make an adaptor for the euro fitting. Though i have searched and searched for a euro to 'british' fitting but cannot find one :(

I suppose it's possible that the tools have some sort of metric pipe thread in them, but that would be quite unusual. I'd be tempted to run a 1/4" BSP tap down the holes and sort them out once and for all.

The adaptor is just a euro Q/R plug to pcl Q/R socket if that makes sense. Just so I could use tools with the std british PCL Q/R male.

As I said I've no idea what the threads in the actual tools are. I just left them with the euro Q/R male in them and use that.

Sorry:eek:

So, i think the tools that came free are international, so it is likely they have a metric thread.

Draper appear to sell the same tool, but it comes with a connector to allow you to hook up a 1/4" bsp fitting directly. The shop i was in said he would speak to the rep to see if he could get me some of these connectors.

But now i just need to decide is i should stick to PCL or Euro fittings…..any thoughts?

Yay, finally got a solution!

The draper rep had a chat with the guy in the shop, but they do not sell the metric to BSP straight coupler.

I had a look online, but no luck finding anything.

Then, i had a brain wave.

I took the Euro quick fit coupling out the compressor and replaced it with a PCL one. Now all my PCL tools work. I then took a female PCL and screwed it into the Euro quick fitting which came out the compressor. So now i connect my euro tool to the euro female quick fitting, which has a PCL female sticking out the other side. Problem solved!

As this is a bit large for a coupling, i can split it by using my 'spring coil' euro air hose.

Hope that makes sense to anybody searching later. Thanks for your help folks!
