Hi

Can anyone help with a complete rewire of a 1988 110? Looking to tied it all up and get rid of excess cables and clean up previous owners mess.

Thanks

I've just completely re-wired my '86 90. there was so much crap in there that was either completely unnecessary, or awful patch up work from previous owners. I started from scratch with new wire where i needed it and salvaged any lengths of wire that were still good.
Basically just used the haynes manual and worked methodically from the starter motor -> ignition switch -> fuses and then around the rest of the car.
I switched to blade fuses just as they were a bit more readily available. It seemed like a pretty daunting task at first but working methodically only took me a day.

A DAY!!!!!! Come and do mine, it took me two days to replace some wires in the dash that melted last weekend. An hour to replace the wires, and the rest of the time striping and puting back the whole dash.

Thanks for this, a day is very impressive. I think I will be a little longer. I have ordered the Haynes Manual and cant wait for it to arrive so I can get started.

Thanks Again

Quick question, which manual did you use?

Thanks

Haynes manual for defender 90/110/130
there is a wiring diagram included on the second page of diagrams i believe for '86 on-wards. It isn't as daunting as you would think as long as you are methodical about things.

Trailer plug cabling can save a lot of work, and is very durable , also marine suppliers for fuse/distribution box a good choice or even. a s/h discovery underbonnet fuse box works very well to get rid of the very poor quality OE fuse box. as the man says early defenders are pretty basic harness wise, and it can be a good move to totally replace wiring that has been modded/bi passed over the years JMHO

Hi

Everywhere I search has the diesel version. Do you knnow of any V8 pertrol editions?

Sorry no clue as to v8 models

Oh and Dom, im in surrey, cant say i fancy heading down there to sort out another mishmash of wiring!! Just because i managed it doesnt mean to say i ever want to do it again!

Whatever you do,DONT put the wiring to the rear through the Chassis, mount it carefully along the top of the chassis, where it can dry out,be cleaned and inspected. The inside of any LR chassis is no place for cables to live, too many sharp edges...
