Please help iam having trouble starting my 2004 TD from cold .it takes a while to start and when it does seems like a slight hesitation then runs fine only started since it started to get chilly

Without stating the obvious - ok with stating the obvious - I assume the plugs are ok?

I never had a TD4, mine was a L series, but loads of TD4 owners here so I'm sure there'll be an answer to that any second now...

Really? I would have thought it should have.
Mine did but I have no idea about this BMW voodoo. Maybe not...

Ok, first I'm assuming you have a FL1, your post title says you have a LR2 but they weren't made in 2004.
Yours is likely to be a facelift version though, often leads to confusion.

With that in mind, this post seems to suggest that you should have a glow plug warning lamp, but that it doesn't light if there is a connection problem to the plugs.
Unless of course it was changed in 2004 and later models.

Can any other TD4 owners confirm this?

Had a good luck this morning and I have a glow plug light tbh I think Iv been jumping in and cranking straight over, possibly starting no prob lem when its been mild but the cold mornings may have found me out.WATCH THIS SPACE

Update changed the heater relay in L shaped fuse box still no plug lights stuck it on diagnostic PC and it comes back as relay permanently on so looks like more digging about .Any suggestions

The glow plug light only comes on when the glow plugs come on, and they are only triggered when the temps are below 5c IIRC or 10c. Something like that... so if it's warmer you won't get a plug light come on.

the td4 doesn't need much glow plug intervention, never notice the warning light unless it's really cold outside, only flashes on for a split second
