Travelled many miles in one my besty mates Mum bought for a fiver ...

I think it died when the horsehair stuffing in the seats walked off on its own :D

Grandad was done then think he paid £15.00 for his. :D:D:D

Had a 15/60 myself in the early 70's. Bought for a £6 at the auctions, when it came through it had a terrible clunk, turned out to be loose nuts on the prop shaft bolts, and it had been parked under a tree for ages. Tightened up the prop and a good clean and sold it for a profit 3 years later. Mine had a chassis lubrication system fitted, it pumped ep90 to all the moving suspension joints.:)

Thanks for replies. Still have this problem sporadically. Usually when temp is in minus figures. If it's warmer it starts. Starter spinning, engine not turning at all. Parts I'm considering replacing : starter motor, leads, coil pack? 99 4.0 THOR with Turner block.

Also strange but I did have a tiny coolant puddle in the footwell but no longer. I just had the pipe under the bonnet that runs back to the heater matrix replaced so maybe that caused a slight leak but I no longer have a puddle and coolant isn't vanishing?!

Has to be one way clutch in bendix as previously said then.

I think the diesel has a type of epicyclic gear arrangement in the bendix does the petrol have the same?

There is a one way clutch that drives the starter gear. There so as the engine fires it does not drive the starter but the pinion freewheels.

I learn something every day. No one way clutch in the engagement or gearing of my Transit starter motor, when it failed to disengage due to contamination from the DMF breaking up, it sounded like a distant yanky police siren as the engine revs rose:eek:

This is still a problem but getting worse, it's now 6 degrees and it won't start. However I have managed to clarify that the engine IS turning but not catching and firing. Any thoughts?

Could it be coils? Lately when starting it runs a bit lumpy and smells every rich before clearing to smooth running. Related?

Also, can anyone tell me what these fault codes mean or what I need to replace to cure these issues? See photo...

Still having this issue and have now replaced the Temperature sensor. The problem is getting worse - it now wont start if temp is under 12-15 degrees. Started this morning - just! and my phone said it was 17 deg.

When it doesn't go, I can get it going by spraying Easy Start in through the airbox so I am guessing it is a fuelling issue - what do people think?

Should I be looking at fuel pump? Leads/plugs? Injectors?

You should be looking at diagnostics rather than guessing:)

Easystart is dangerous stuff! Don't overdo it in case you make the situation worse. Just about anything fires with Easystart!

I'd check the spark plugs first as it is cheapest and simplest. Process of elimination unless you have diagnostics and understand the output.

Whenever I take it to the garage where they have diagnostics, it is warm enough to start = no fault codes.

If there was a fault code cold it would still be there hot. So we can safely assume there is nothing wrong with it.

Mozz had a problem starting his from cold, after an epic and costly year + it turned out to be a burnt relay I believe.:)

That is indeed the case. Ignition relay i believe. Relays 12 fuel pump,15 ignition and 19 main engine control maybe worth scoping. :):)

Mornin Alan.
