I bought one of those ceramic car heaters from Maplin, but it blew the fuse in my fusebox. I guess it just couldnt take the current or something. In my fuse box it was only a 10amp fuse and the maplin heater said it would run on a 15 amp circuit, so I have put a 15 amp fuse in place of the blown 10 amp fuse in the fuse box (all i had at the time) but I havent put plugged the heater in since as im worried it could damage the wiring or something.
I was going to wire it up with a relay connected to the back of the cigarette lighter and direct to the battery so it would only come on when ignition was on, and wouldnt affect the wiring.
Would that work?

having a similar idea to you rik,

been considering making my own cubby and running 2 ceramic heaters for front and rear but on their own circuits with dash switches.

I was just gonna have the one, but I think the relays would work and be a good safe way of preventing damage to the wiring. What you think? It should work OK shouldnt it?

I just bought one of the 150w ceramic heaters off eBay (looks the same as the Maplin one).

What a joke! It moves about as much air as a fly's fart... and is about as warm.

I'll plug it in tomorrow morning when I get into my freezing cold Landy, and assuming I don't die of hypothermia whilst waiting, I will report back as to how long it takes to warm the truck up!

Ian.

a couple of house bricks, heated overnight indoors on top of a rad, rested on the dash top give off more heat and will defrost your side of the screen in a fraction of the time it'd take one of those heaters

try it, you'll be surprised

Get some old heat bricks out of an old storage heater, they are very high iron content so retain a lot of heat, new ones are only cheap in electrical wholesalers. When we take them out of storage heaters that have been charging the night before we cannot touch them as they are so hot

Better off not running 230v in your Landy. Even a small household heater uses a monumental amount of power and it will flatten a battery quickly.
You would be better off with an extension cable from your house and the heater on the end of it 10 minutes before you get in.

Yup - think that's what I'm going to start doing! The little ceramic heater thing was pretty pathetic this morning - although to be fair, it did produce some warm air whereas the Landy fan just blows out cold air. Bloomin' cool-running 200Tdi !
