Hi all, as it's peeing down today I thought I'd get on with buying new oils for my PAS and ACE which needs flushing badly!

With the LR recommended cold climate fluid being daft money per ltr nowadays I've been looking at alternative options and have found this from Westway Oils;
https://rover.ebay.com/rover/0/0/0?mpre=https://www.ebay.co.uk/p/712493502?iid=111815863341

Does anyone have any experience with Westway (good or bad)? It looks like a decent option but wanted to double check before shelling out!

Thanks

atf dexron 2 or 3 would do perfectly well

Ok, thanks. As is always the way with google I’ve been searching around a seen a number of posts suggesting that the original was “better” and dextron 3 should only be an emergency option- so wanted to be sure!!

How about this one: https://www.smithandallan.com/produ...-and-allan-cold-climate-power-steering-fluid/

I haven't used it but have had other oils from them and they seem good.

My Indy recommends always using cold climate fluid in both steering and ACE. Given the costs of getting it wrong I see no reason to doubt him.

Your link doesn't work for me BTW.
Thanks, will take a look.

Sorry about the link. EBay links are a pain It's a company called Westway oils and "appears" to be suitable!!

and yet the defender td5 pas system uses dexron, cold climate is just used as it can be very long life, theres nothing in either system requires very special oil

And what's your point?? The OP said he was looking for alternatives. I gave him one.
Dexron lll was stated in post #2, and quote “ would do perfectly well” so what’s your point, the brand? if so let us all know why.

The PAS might have no issues with ATF but i strongly recommend to not use that in ACE, the one recommended by @iansoady is a good and cheaper alternative which is within the LR recommended specs

Well let me think. Once upon a time, I was looking at other fluids to use in the PAS system of my vehicle, as the manufacturer's recommended fluid was bloody expensive. So, I got onto Google and started searching and blah blah blah........do I need to go on??

why ?,theres nothing in the ace system that would suffer ,plain hydraulic oil would be perfect

So after your Google searching and therefore you’re informing us that you are now have been using a Dexron lll spec ATF, so that’s your recommendation as the alternative to the cold climate fluid. Looks like we finally got the point. :)
What's with the attitude mate?? I'm no oil expert ok. Is that what you want to hear? I found an alternative to the specified fluid that works for me. I shared this with the OP and anyone else.

This discussion was also an old one and my arguments were revealed then... in a nutshell the ACE is extremely sensitive to pressure inputs and not all the oils are acting the same under 135 Bar pressure.while the system was calibrated and the ECU mapped from factory for the inputs given by the LR recommended cold climate PAS fluid... i'm not gonna keep the whole theory again but i said at that time and i still sustain that all the pumps i've seen failed were running on ATF ...i rest my case

the reason all pumps youve seen failed have been on atf is because atf was used to top up a leak, often not soon enough, plain hydraulic oil obviously is more than capable as its running in more complex and higher pressure systems, 135 bar is not particularly high pressure for hydraulic systems, engine oil and gear box oil have been used for systems with more

ACE "My @rse" What's wrong with leaning a little on a bend!? Would prevent petty squabbling and help improve ya core strength. Anyway, accidentally strayed from the Trattor section. I'm orf back. o_O:p:rolleyes::)

With your positivity in your statement in the exact oil that you are using I would have thought you were an “oil expert”... perhaps that was your intention.

Also why the obscenity ? Do you have trouble yourself
