Yeah, I think I'll go Foxwell. Cheaper than even a second hand Nanocom, no brainer if it's also more reliable.

Having a reasonable collection of diagnostic equipment, my preference is for a stand alone unit (no PC required) or something smart device oriented, like the Gap IID BT.

I've got 2 diagnostic systems that require a PC to run the necessary software (Delphi and MultiECUScan). This is always a pain to use, as the SW invariably wants to update, the moment I want to read codes. However the PC based SW is also the most comprehensive solution, as it can not only read and clear codes, but will also do PTM adjustments like coding injectors for instance, which is something that most stand alone units can't do.

The Gap Diagnostics IID BT is a different kettle of fish entirely, but it's limited to later LRs ~2006 onwards, its also VIN locked to a specific vehicle, although additional VINs can be added at a cost $35 each.

However the IID is on par, or actually better than the LR diagnostic tools, and enables CCF modifications, programming and upgrades, which is really useful. It's also tiny, so can be left in the vehicle, just in case an issue crops up, which needs immediate diagnosis.

I think honestly it will be a good choice.
Best of luck with it.
And i have used to OBD2 thing on it on my son's camper and wifey's car so you do not lose that capability either. Plus it tells you the fault rather than just giving you a code, or more or less.
(Doesn't actually tell you how to fix it, but then none do, do they?)

The Icarsoft would read and clear codes on a Td5 but the codes are mostly false and the live readigs as well, here's an example https://www.landyzone.co.uk/land-rover/icarsoft-i930-on-td5.279411/#post-3464423 and it has way less capability than foxwell
Hi, I plugged the NT530 in last night to my TD5 just to look for any other 'fault' codes & noticed when I come out of a menu say airbag to abs it shuts some of the electrics down eg instrument pack, lights either side of auto gear stick etc but when you leave the menu to go to another they come back on. I disconnected it after turning the ign. Off & leaving for 5 mins. Then plugged it back in & this time started the eng. to see if it cut out whilst running through the same windows the same happened again but the eng. stayed running, I then plugged it into the laptop & it had two updates downloaded via Foxwells site. I've tried it again this morning & the same happens. It seems to read all the faults & clears them but I'm a bit worried it might damage something. See pics attached. It doesn't do this on my Freelander 1 ! Are these the 'bugs you mentioned? Cheers for any advice. It's after the stabilising that things return to normal.

I doubt that it will damage something, when it runs the system test it disables or enables various warning lights of the scanned system, that's how some scanners work on D2

Phew, it did have me worried when you mentioned bugs. Do you know what I should look out for in the way of bugs on this 530 just in case? Many thanks.

I think i explained in then other thread, the 530 had issues with the softwares as it didint have all the menus under one icon, as long as you have them all and works it's ok

It's not uncommon for the module being scanned to shut down temporarily. The dash on my FL1 obviously does something when being scanned by the I930, as the gauges swing full dial, before dropping to below zero, and all the warning lights illuminate too. This all returns to normal, once the diagnostic reader has existed the Ipack screen.

Yes, for example on D2 the warning lights will stay on while a tester is connected to an ECU no matter what tool or ECU cos the warning light circuit tests are working ''backwards'' as the light is extinguished on test then comes on again which is logical cos if the light is on while driving then to diagnose the circuit you must see it going off on tester request then the circuit is ruled out otherwise you can suspect that the signal between the warning and related ECU is interrupted. Any ECU makes a self test then if no faults are present sends a signal to the warning lights to keep them off that's how it works

All this electrickery scares me  I bought a Nanocom about a year or so ago, and to be honest it’s only been plugged in twice. Both for hub issues. I have not let it loose on any other system as, to be honest I have no clue how to work it. In fact, I don’t even know where the bugger is.

I'm actually quite happy with my iCarsoft LR V.2 despite the hate on here. :( Clears codes, resets the service and does the EPB, ABS pump malarkey. The free update online worked at the first attempt too. IID is the daddy but costs £500, that's a **** load o beers man.

You won't be so happy if you had a Td5 cos that's what we are talking about. The hate is about it's relation with Td5 EMS and that's full of sh*t believe me. Nobody said that iCarsoft doesnt work well on CAN-bus vehicles which are EOBD compliant ;)

Well if you find it, sell it to me! ;)
