Did a check on previous threads but nothing coming up the same as mine.

Put a new clutch on my 300tdi about 3 or 4 weeks ago,

Disco drove as it should after the clutch was fitted.

Last week I was doing a bit of light offroading.

Clutch pedal went to floor and didnt come back up,

There is no resistance in the clutch pedal at all, you can press it down with your hand no problem, as I said no resistance what so ever,

I tryed bleeding it, nothing,

Put a new slave cylinder on it last night, just the same,

wont bleed up, still no resisitance on clutch pedal, even when I changed the slave cylinder, when I took the pipe off the slave cylinder to put it on the new slave, no fluid came out of the pipe, got a little trickle but that was it,

When I renewed the clutch a few weeks ago I replaced the fork also to the stonger uprated one as everyone seems to advise this,

Once you start the Disco in gear it drives fine, no rattles or bangs or anything like that,

Any advise info would be very much appreciated.

last night I even left the bleed nipple open to see if it would drip bleed through the night as I saw a few had suggested this on other threads.

Hasnt lost a drop of fluid.
 
Got to be master cylinder then.
Thats what Im thinking,

Just strange how there is absolutly no resistance in the pedal though,

Minimum amount of preasure on the pedal and it falls to the floor, dosnt come back up once its been pressed.
 
Still no joy with bleeding clutch.

As I said I even tryed letting it drip bleed with no joy.

I was wondering if anyone could tell me if there was suppose to be some sort of guid for the push rod from the slave cylinder to the arm in the gearbox,

Just as I think about it, Im sure when we checked it out when we were offroading, there was like a plastic grommet melted to the push rod.

I was wondering if that was a guid to centre the push rod onto the arm.

Just a quick thanks to the replys about clutch.

Went out and tryed bleeding it again and it bled up ok.

So thanks. Was very much appreciated

Well I thought it was ok,

Drove the Disco about 3 or 4 mile then the clutch started to feel spongy,

Eventualy it was difficult to get a gear,

Disco hasnt turned a wheel since as my younger brother who usualy does the repairs was on holiday.

Thought it must be the master cylinder as Iv replaced the full clutch kit and it drove great, then as Iv already said the clutch went to floor and I got a new slave cylinder,

We changed the master cylinder last night, tyred bleeding it the normal way, then preasure bleeding etc,

Just cant get a decent pedal.

Anyone any idea`s.

Noticed on another thread someone suggested getting a longer push rod,

Doubt this would make a difference though, push rod on mine is about 4 inches, but when you put the slave cylinder into where it has to go the push rod just touches the fork in no more.

Iv also did what has been mentioned on other threads of bringing pipe from master cylinder straight to slave cylinder.

Any suggestions would be greatfull.

Has your gearbox got a wading plug in? Could be a torn boot and it's flooding into your bell housing?
 
No doubt you have read my posts about clutch problems, 1 checked all the usual you’re not losing any fluid, 2 no air getting into the system veer a leak,3 you fitted correct slave cylinder, 4 you bought right clutch borg-beck, there are cheaper ones out there which are ****, 5 Master cylinder is correct one and bleed, not useing Brit-Part rubbish

Saw your post mate, think I commented on it as well.

To be honest I cant remember the clutch I put in it, was a cheap one though, I know that, wasnt borg-beck clutch, replaced the master cylinder with second hand one off another Discovery, wasnt genuine Landrover slave cylinder, I even tryed putting new seals in the old slave cylinder tonight, but I have gave up for the night.

Go and try it tomorrow night again when I finish work, becoming a pain in the arse if Im honest,

Time to get rid of it I think :)

Not sure if its got a wading plug in it or not. how do I tell ? new to Discovery`s, would that have anything to do with not being able to bleed it up though ?

I know what you mean mate, reason I asked if it was borg-beck clutch, I bought a cheap one for I think it was £60 of ebay, well big mistake It looked the part, fitted it, blead it, but it slipped, had to pull engine again turned out this clutch was copy but a very poor copy when I looked closer, sent it back bought borg and beck. I have all good parts in mine but still can’t get a full release, I have tried everything believe me, I’ve had the engine in and out checking, well I’ve lost count how many times, everything is correct but it will not give me a full release, I hope you have much better luck with yours. Just read your final thoughts get rid I have to say I'm comin to that fast

Went offroading in it one day and got stuck. Tryed getting it out and clutch just went to the floor. Nothing there at all. Got it pulled out and started it in gear. No clutch slipping or anything like that. Got it bled up eventualy. Clutch felt great. Drove it to my brothers about 3 mile away and I felt the pedal getting spongy. After I got it back home there wasnt realy any clutch there. Very slight pedal at the bottom of clutch if that makes sense.
Thought it must still be drawing air. Changed master cylinder as I said. Then was at it last night for a few hours. Still getting no where.

My brother was talking to a guy that works for landrover and he was saying that one of the times he did a clutch bleed it took 2and a half gallon of fluid before he got it sorted.

Give me the cable clutch anytime lol.

Obviously you know that the slave cylinder works pretty much the same as a bicycle pump, the piston moves up and down the inner sleeve as you put your foot to the pedal and then release, the piston moves back and forth inside the cylinder the same distance every time you use the clutch pedal, so the piston does not use the whole length of the cylinder, the bit it does not use can get grubby or even rusty over time, So if for some reason your pedal goes to the floor, the piston in the slave will be forced past it’s normal travel and will get damaged by the rusty bit in the cylinder, being only rubber it is more than probable. So your problem could be due to this.
 
had this prob on 3 discos found it was the damper.
change it and they were fine

That sounds like what I need to do on mine. I changed master and slave and have bled and bled it trying to get a decent clutch, but it still crunches into gear sometimes, and v often into reverse.
The dampers are supposed to be a bitch to bleed sometimes.
 
Iv bypast the damper,

Hasnt made any difference, only thing I havent changed is the pipe from the master cylinder to the slave cylinder,

Was told why they are such a c*nt to bleed is because of the loop in the pipe it`s self, if its true or not I dont know.

Was thinking of getting a new pipe made up without the loop in it, or at least with just a bend in it to take up any flexibility that is needed for the engine and box moving etc.

Just clutching (no pun intended :hysterically_laughi) at straws now I think on what I can try,

When I looked closly to the pipe though it did have some small nicks in it where it goes into the slave or master cylinder, cant remember what side it was but definetly some small nicks, dont think it was enough to draw air certainly and its probarly just with me having it off and on a few times,

When we were pumping the pedal up last night you could hear the push rod hitting against the fork, so wasnt even getting enough of a pedal to realy press against the fork.

Its a new reinforced fork thats in it.

Seriously just thinking of getting rid of it now, shame too as my younger brother has done a lot of work to it, timing belt service and a fair bit of welding, plus other things.

But what do you go for, ??????

Main reason I bought it was for the winter as my Beemer just dosnt want to know in the ice and snow. so might have to keep it.
