Help....driving home last night and the clutch pedal felt like it was in the wrong place. The bite point was further away and as I drove home it got worse and worse until it was hard to change gear with the clutch on the floor.

Have looked at Busters DIY guide on the master cylinder...is that the right place to start looking? What should i go looking for please?
 
Storm - the slave cylinder...is that the one with the white clear plastic screw on lid that is attached to a piston off the end of the clutch pedal? Its located on the bulkhead?

The slave cylinder is the cylinder that is attached to the front of the gearbox. The master cylinder is attached to the bulkhead and the clutch pedal.
 
Far more common for the slave to go than the master...if the reservoir is low/empty i'd say slave, look to see where its leaking from, if underneath its the slave...if it was master you might have fluid running onto the clutch pedal itself and ruining your high heels. Either way cheap fix but bloody annoying.
 
OK - sat in office, landy is at home! So check that both the slave and master have fluid in them. Presumably if they do not then there must be a reason for its sudden dissapearance?

Will report back once I get home....I have to go to Pakistan this weekend so may not get a chance to look before I go!
 
You cant check fluid in slave, its basically just a piston in a metal sleeve size of a sausage roll..enclosed unit bolted on the gearbox by 2 or 3 bolts...often the rubber seal fails on it. Check the reservoir and see if empty and any signs of fluid around the master...my bet is slave.
 
Storm / Guys - had a look under landy. It must be the slave as gearbox is wet with fluid. How do I best access the slave? Is it through the middle seat from above?

Shall I get a replacement slave or can you service the old one?
 
Is there a set of pics that show how to access and replace the slave? Am on dial up speed connection out of UK....so please dont just tell me to do a search....its taking ages to open a page!
 
For the record - it was the slave, replaced with help from Buster. Thanks for all the help guys!
