Hi everyone well after getting my its replaced I've now got trouble with my clutch!

Car won't go in gear and its gradually got worse over a few days to the point where it won't go in gear at all when the engines running now. Looked up under the drivers footwell and can see some fluid coming from the clutch thingy? When I press the clutch in the sticks at the bottom and feels spongey.

Really gutted just want to enjoy my freelander but it's one thing after another at the min.

Anyone any ideas what this may be? Any help is appreciated as usual!

Easy home job .... Part is a sealed unit which has a push connection ..

Do a quick search on clutch master cylinder ... Lots on here about it

I had the same problem on my 99 L-series, also check the slave bracket, change it if it's bend. Got replacement master/slave unit from Bearmach, 35 pounds. Just so you know - UK version master/clutch cylinder change = easy. European version master/clutch cylinder change = a real hassle due to no room for removal of master...

:D

Cheers for the replies everyone, much appreciated still struggling to find a guide/ tutorial if anyone could point me in the right direction? Done a search but it seems to be all people just saying they've done it with no explanations of how :D

Attached is from the workshop manual (read from point 5).

When you attach the new assembly, do NOT cut the retainer on the slave unit until it´s fitted! The rod will push itself out if you do (and you would have to buy a new master/slave unit).

Hope it helps!

Is it the same basic principle on a td4 though? Disconnect the master cylinder from the slave, I clip from the clutch pedal, turn 45 degrees then stick the new one in?

no it is totally different if you are not familiar with it ask a mechanic to have a look at it for you as it may just be the seals on it.

How did the clutch get changed?

If nothing broken it will need bleeding. They are crap to bleed, search and I have given methods to bleed a few times recently. Basically means pumping the peddle 10+ times and letting a timely amount of fluid out, top up and repeat

From what I've read you can't bleed them can you? Or have I just read it wrong.

Just been out the clutch is now non existent, press it in and it stays at the floor, followed it through the bulk head and there's some blue tape looking stuff half way through the line below the windscreen then further down into the engine a yellow looking thing about an inch or two long.

Looked up under the footwell last night and there looked to be a drop of yellowish fluid coming from there black piston type thing that goes through the bulkhead?

Sorry for the lack of technical names I'm not familiar with any of it!

Thanks again for all the help everyone

Thank you trax how do I go about this please? It's just so I can get it to a garage really I've ordered a master cylinder last night off eBay thinking it was that, £47.99 on ebay.

Just done a quick search is it as easy as popping the rubber cap off the master cylinder reservoir and topping up? Also bit dodgy but I've not brake/ clutch fluid in the house would I be ok nicking a bit out of the brake reservoir for the time being or is that a no no? I just need it to last me til Monday really when I can drive it to a garage cheers everyone, don't know what I'd do without this forum! Lol
