hi could you give me some advice my spigot bush on my discovery 2 fell to pieces and smashed my release arm bearing to bits so i dropped gear box removed clutch fitted all new parts and a heavy duty release bearing put it all back together using the old clutch as it was only a year old it changes gears smoothly but soon as turbo kicks in clutch is slipping it's like it's still engaged when i release clutch do you think this is because I've put clutch in wrong or clutch was damaged as I had to start it in gear to get off a green lane it looked ok when I removed it or do you think it's a hydraulic issue any advice is much appreciated I'm at my wits end with it lol
 
Thank you for your reply I put it in with the side that the centre hole sticks out to the fly wheel I I tryed to remember what way it was it came off and was almost certain it was this way but honestly not 100 percent it changes gears very smoothly though
 
You haven't kinked one of your pipes have you so it will operate the clutch under pressure but fluid not returning when you let the pedal off?

Thanks for your reply Iv only just replaced the pipe from the slave cylinder to the master cylinder as it was leaking no kinks in it tho as it was mostly metal and replaced slave cylinder
 
Bit of an update I've removed clutch and there is a bit of play in the disc on the flywheel is this normal it moves about an inch left and right before it hits the flywheel and then stops at the pressure of the engine I tryed to upload video but won't work the picture is what is moving the thing I've got hold of by the bolts

Here is link to the video I'm hoping to get away with new pressure plate and clutch plate but if this ain't Normal I will have to replace that aswell thanks
 
You have play in the dual mass flywheel, probably wouldn’t cause a clutch slip but when worn have been known to breakup and smash their way out of the bell housing,
If it was my vehicle I would replace it with another clutch, expensive yes but then the job is done right,


Description
The Dual Mass Flywheel is a clutch component that makes the gear change lighter and feel more positive whilst reducing the noise produced by the engine and gearbox of your vehicle. It is recommended to change the flywheel when changing a clutch as a worn flywheel will quickly damage any new clutch it is fitted to.

AFAIK, a DMF is meant to do that and as long as it springs back, it should be OK. Check for cracks and using a screwdriver, see if there's outward movement on that plate. If there is, you can usually hear rattling when idle and it can also result in a bit of judder when pulling away.

Thanks for your reply mate It dosnt spring back but theres no major play in and out or shuddering or anything on take off
 
As you seem to have no fluid contamination on the clutch plates, (good news), are you sure the release bearing is releasing fully? Splines clean etc? And is clutch arm in exactly the right place? Any signs of abnormal wear on your new clutch plate? (Couldn't really tell from photos.)
Such a buggre this sorta prob as you have to keep taking everything on and off the back of the engine to see if what you've just done makes any diff.
Although i know nothing much about dual mass flywheels, I'd get yours really checked out before looking at anything else not mentioned so far. Compare with a new one if you can maybe?

Thanks for your reply I slackened the slave cylinder bolts off till I could hear the release bearing hitting the pressure plate so I new it was fully releasing it did get better but still slipping it is like the release bearing isnt releasing but it moves perfectly fine up and down the shaft with gearbox off

Did you say your slave cylinder was new? Sounds like maybe the fluid isn't returning back through it like it should. New ones have been known to play up. Seals can get accidentally turned over in the cylinder then they act kinda opposite to how they should.
Just saying.

Had a look at your video clip and it's hard to say if you're pushing hard enough to exert enough force on the torsional damper spring. But that free play is not a good sign IMO and there's quite a lot of it unfortunately. Can't believe it's doing that after only 3K miles. Can I ask what brand of DMF you have installed ?

Yes well when I put new spigot bearing etc in I put it all back together and it was slipping so I looked underneath and seen that the pipe was leaking jus as it goes into the slave cylinder i must of done it pulling gear box out as it was an old pipe so £130 on a new pipe and slave cylinder it was I thought that mite fix my slippage but it never but maybe your right and I have some how turned the seals over in the master cylinder
