Hi all, I've just replaced the clutch slave cylinder on my '84 defender and can't seem to bleed it. Any tips? How many cycles of up and down on the pedal should see it bled? Any help much appreciated.

im not taking the ****, no/1 is there fluid in the res, ;yes; NO/2 get your mrs to sit in the cab while you crawl underneath, slacken bleed screw and get the mrs to press the clutch to floor nice and slow, when its on the floor tighten the bleed screw and the release the pedal, and then repeat the above again about 3 to 4 times this should work fine but dont forget to keep your eye on the resivior and keep it topped up.

Already tried it fella, a good few repeats of pedal action. No joy. Could fluid be leaking somewhere I can't see? No leaks in pipes to either cylinder.

They can be a right bastide to bleed

I always do em backwards by injecting brake fluid from underneath by connecting a syringe onto the slave cylinder with a piece of rubber pipe and pushing fluid up.

Once you have fluid in there you can bleed in the usual way :)

Good luck!

i had this problem a while ago. spent AGES tryin to bleed it after replacing the slave cylinder. Someone suggested the master might of gone as well so replaced it and it bled in no time.
