How long have I got left?

The release bearing on my TD5 has started to whine when it is cold, but once when in gear it stops. Does anybody have any idea how long I have left before I need to crawl under the car to change the bearing. I'm not looking forward to changing it and don't want to do it till it warms up a little.

does it happen as soon as you press pedal or in the middle only and goes when clutch fully depressed ,spigot bush can also make a noise ,but either way i would think you have a reasonable time ,bearing in mind if it does damage clutch fingers you will be changing clutch at same time anyhow

Mine does this. Only started after new clutch and bearing fitted, and only for first couple of minutes after cold start up. OEM parts fitted, and is fine after warmed up, so not botherin too much about it.

Happens as soon as I put pressure on the pedal, I know the gearbox is ok just needs a oil change. Whats more annoying is the wife panicking that something is wrong with the car.

The little qwarky rumble as you depress the clutch pedal does seem quite prevalent on start up and for some reason after new clutch fitment i have no idea why but never seems to cause a problem and most settle down after a while

Engineer:):)

It's more likely the spigot bush, which isn't really a problem, just annoying (if you allow it to annoy you).

i would say mr noisey is bang on the money, lot of clutch kits don,t come wiv this spigot bush bearing,, silly really only cost bout quid and make all the difference, :)

mine had complete heavy duty clutch kit , spigot , and it rattles like a t..t after only 10,000 miles.

Did u replace the flywheel too? ...cos if it's a new HD clutch kit with a tired flywheel then it's not strange at all:rolleyes:

Hi,
My D2 has got a heavy clutch pedal ( has since i have had it but dint know if its normal ) and slipped the other day when towing a horse trailer. It was a hill and i was in 2nd gear then been fine.

In your experience, is this an issue if i always pull away in the correct gear ?. Also , does it sound like a clutch replacment or another part/adjustment/fluids etc ?.

thanks in advance....

Hi, the D2's clutch is not adjustable....slipping has nothing to do with the hydraulic system....if it will begin to slip more often then start to look after a clutch kit to replace it. As long as u have a good pedal and it goes easyly in gears the hydraulics are ok.

Thanks, i will keep an eye on it. As long as it dosnt slip in first pulling away i think i will be ok.

a clutch replacment sounds costly..............

U will not wait untill then believe me.... when u kick it down in 3'rd(even 4'th) and the revs goes up but the car doesnt accelerate well then it's the time for a new one ... the kit is not so expensive but it's a quite big job

When I changed my clutch mine was in about 5 pieces. Sounds like the culprit but I'd personally change it because it can't be good for the shaft surely?

Exactly how mine went. Theres a steep hill on my way home and over about 2 weeks it started slipping in 3rd more and more. In the end I could dump the clutch in 2nd and it would slowly pull away. It cost me about £40 to change my heavy duty one. Do the slave and spigot at the same time, you may as well. If it's slipping it will deteriorate quickly.

Looks like just the clutch kit is around £60 - £100 and £300 ish including the flywheel.

Do you know what a garage would charge to fit. I have done airbags & suspension parts, but dont have the knowledge or equipment to do a clutch.

thanks,
