Alright everyone?

I've made the mistake of uprating my clutch, I bought option 2 from RakeWay >> http://www.rakeway.co.uk/page28.html

And I've had it all fitted by a professional transmission garage today, they've just called me to say it fits lovely but the pedel is so hard you almost need both feet to push it, and it won't clear gears while the engine is off. If you start it in gear, it drives fine, you just have to blip the throttle when changing gears. They said that is obviously not right but seen as it's a heavy duty uprated kit that might be how it is intened. They have checked the hydralic system and it's all fine.

Rakeway are now closed, but I will call them tomorrow to ask but for now can any of you offer me advice please?
Are there some kind of larger uprated Slave Cylinders that I need?
Or is this how heavy duty single mass clutches are? I can't see it being intened to be like that myself...

I wish I never bothered, but it's too late now so any help with what I need to do to get this to work would be great :)

its obviously not right at all,and considering they think a hd might be like that they are hardly professional,personally i think you should have fitted a dual mass but single or dual wouldnt effect the pedal,if clutch springs are that stiff its not suitable

Well they don't ususally fit uprated parts, they just fitted it for me because I've had work done there before and I asked nicely haha.

a larger piston slave if there were such that fitted ,which i highly doubt,would gain pressure by losing stroke,it will have to come apart again

I take it you've never heard of a larger slave then, I've been searching all over the internet and haven't come up with anything yet either. hopfully the bloke at Rakeway can offer a solution tomorrow.
I'll be watching here though to see if anyone can offer a hand, apparently they sell these kits a lot so someone on here must have one.

no ,because lr never made one and i doubt any aftermarket did,its not a bigger slave you need

Forgive me then, but what do I need?
You don't seem very happy but I can look past that, I'm asking for advice from someone who may have the same kit as me, or may have good knowledge when it comes to uprated clutches.

im not unhappy,obviously you need to find out why ,either a faulty clutch cover or fitment,i have fitted a lot of hd clutches

Definitely the fitment or parts are wrong. I've run all sorts of competition clutches in rally cars in the past and never had that sort of issue.
Even running double diaphragm springs on my motorbike clutch doesn't do that, although some suggest upgrading the master cylinder to a bigger one to offset the slightly heavier lever.

increasing master piston size would stiffen the pedal

For those interested, it seems the wrong release bearing was sent. There are two, one is 12mm longer than the other. I have the shorter one, but I'm supposed to have the longer one which would disengage the clutch more thus fix the problem.
New one is in the post, I'll tell you all if it worked or not.

Haha yeah, and the bloke at RakeWay who seems alright on the phone seems to stand by his single mass unit too.

Anyway, so I had to pay the garage that fitted the clutch for two fittings which was £840. They couldn't get it to work, as soon as I got in it and felt the pedal was like a sponge I said it's got air in it, he said I've bleed it countless time, so I said well the master or slave is dead then, he dissagreed. So I took it anyway, lost all clutch pedal 2 miles down the road in the middle of a busy junction. Finally got home, and I'm waiting on a new master and slave from Paddocks as we speak. I've removed the old ones this morning ready to fit the new ones. If that fixes it, I'll be going back to them and demanding my money back as they should have known that by how the pedal was.

Anyway, we'll see if these new cylinders fixes it first. But I know, by replacing everything and bleeding it properly there isn't anything to be wrong left.
 
Not sure if this is a help, but somewhere I read of an older person who didn't have the strength anymore to depress his clutch so he fitted an additional booster? I think. When I put in a HD clutch in my defender it was a little bit stiffer, but that's all. Don't know if this helps.

Interesting, I've heard of some but the stiffness of the clutch isn't the issue, the fact it does't work is the problem lol.
