Driving home last night. Clutch pedal went to the floor, and stayed there. RAC guy suspects collapsed slave cylinder. any Ideas of cos for repair anyone?
 
Master, slave, and clutch all done.:( £620.

Hmmm sounds like they took advantage of you there pal. The master cylinder is the main cause of the pedal dropping to the floor or did you ask them to replace the clutch as well. They must have done the slave on the recommendation of the rac man ( first mistake ) and realised it was the master cylinder that was faulty, as for the clutch, unless it was badly slipping before the pedal dropped there was probably still life left in it. Dont get me wrong i'm glad it's fixed but dont like seeing folk ripped off. If you'd have come into our garage the master cylinder would have been changed first. What type of workshop was it? Fred in the shed?

Check the work has been done it should be obvious if it has. disturbed bolts traces of new gaskets/sealants. hose clips disturbed/replaced etc.
 
never listen to the rac man (or the AA in fact!) they told my girlfriend that the loss of power in her car was due to the clutch... she got it replaced and it turned out to be the accelerator cable was slack :( ****ers.

That is pretty typical of breakdown companies, the trouble is they're not the ones that fix it so they can say anything without the responsibilty of giving the correct diagnosis. I had a rac chap come out to me with a bigger ego than van and he reeled off about ten different things that could be wrong with my beemer causing it to run on 4-5 cylinders, i only phoned em so they could give me a plug in to see if there was any fault codes in the memory. He eventually ****ed off so i disconnected the battery for a while which on beemers resets the ecu and all was good, but what kind of diagnosis is that, just tell me to take it to a dealer rather than making a complete guess. Dickheads.
It sounds like Hiram has had a similar experience to us, surely they should be able to diagnose a dropped pedal easy enough. Hiram i definately think something is wrong with the garage you took it to pal, unless you told them to change the clutch or they gave you proof that it had failed as well they shouldn't have touched it. I have never known an occasion where master, slave and clutch have failed at the same time it's usually one or the other. Unless they can give you a good reason avoid using that garage in the future.

Thanks Lads, the clutch was my choice as I was advised to have it done when the box was out. Th agarage that did it are part of an Autoparcs (car sales) I took it back to where i bought it and they arranged to have it done,I only had it 8 weeks, and they of course said the warranty didnt cover the clutch mechanics/. I do feel as If ve been ripped off a little, but as I know SFA about cars I have to thake their word.
Unless anyone can give me a photographic instruction of where and how to check Im f****d.
 
I had a deisel Astra once, with a head gasket problem. A mate who was a diesel fitter told me it was possibly the head gasket, but he didnt have time to do it. As I needed it for work I took it to a garage, and told them I "thought" it was the head gasket, but regardless I needed it fixed. They changed the head gasket,and I paid, but it wasnt much better. So I took it back. They eventually discovered a hole in the head, replaced it, and charged me again. I refused to pay so they took me to court. The garage proprieters wife turned up, eight and a half months up the bunt, crying her eyes out in court, with a mechanic swearing I said "Its the head gasket, just fix it" I lost.
