clutch went on the td4 and bought a new slave cylinder bit my machanic mate said will need a clutch plate as well where and how much?

Try this one on ebay for full clutch kit for just under £120 inc.vat & postage

or if you want a plate only try this one from Paddock £65 + vat + postage

Better off with the full kit from DSL on ebay plus it's a Borg & Beck which is a top make. Have a search on yahoo or Google & you might come up with better, but they should give you an idea.
