I have a Defender 110 300TDI 1997. Several times now the clutch pedal had jammed down and I have to pull it up again before I can change gear. Does anyone have any suggestions as to what causes this and if there is anything I can do myself to stop it jamming?

Thanks for replying quickly. There is no evidence of leakage so I was hoping the master cylinder was ok. Could it just be a problem with the Slave Cylinder?

Don't know if James will agree .... but I believe its sensible to get the OEM parts when it comes to Clutch Cylinders.

I just done mine a few weeks ago ( Lost all 'clutching' 10 miles from home... and 'twas the master cylinder to blame, - and it was not a very old ****part one ) ...

James will know much better than I - but i understand its unwise to scrimp on these bits, apparently. :)

Thank you everyone, I am totally new to Defenders but am absolutely loving it. Keep getting blokes telling me how much they love our car but their wives say no...wondering if they have really asked their wives?!

Clutch pedal stuck to floor and being forcable pulled up by hand is common of the clutch arm failing where the pivot balls pushes through it. This is very comon.

I have a feeling this is your issue ?

Oos_ya_daddy, I did write a reply and thanked you a couple of weeks ago but I seem to have had a blonde moment when posting!

It sounds like you know exactly what the problem is. What am I looking for to check and do I still need to replace the whole lot?

Thank you.

if clutch has been if a bit id fit new kit stc8358bb and lever ftc2957hd,and check pivot if surface is rough or looking worn fit new one ftc5218

Thank you everyone, it has got a lot worse in the middle of our holiday so we are having to find help in the Inverness area tomorrow to get it sorted.

Thanks everyone. It has now become an emergency while we are on holiday...serves is right for putting it off until we had time to do it! Now in garage in Inverness, great holidays, camping cancelled due to rain and car in garage!
