Hi all, this is my very first post and my very first landrover. I have a freelander sport with the TD4 engine. My issue is the clutch works fine and bites ok and everything, however sometimes when I depress the pedal, it doesn't quite return to its original position, it sometimes stops around 10-15 mm short then within a few seconds it pop beck up, I feel it hit the bottom of my foot, anyone shed any light on this please as I think the master cylinder could be on the way out, I've only just brought it and its all under warranty so would like to sort it before it expires, many thx new landy friends !!!!

Mine has just recently started doing this occasionally. Be interesting to work out what it is.

Had the same problem. Changed STC000171 Clutch Master Cylinder of my 2005 Td4. Problem solved. By the way it is possible to bleed the system first. Which will help you for a while.

Mine has done this intermitently since I got it - hasn't got any worse, so have just left it, as above though, would be interesting to know what it is.

It seems I'm not on my own then with this, how much is a new cylinder roughly and how difficult to replace, I may leave it if there are people who's had this for a longtime and sort it myself when it finally does give up the ghost?

Stick your head under the dash and press down on clutch, there should be a small plastic washer stopping pedal from slipping off, if it has worn, then unfortunatley you need to replace the clutch master cylinder. RRP is around £140 and one hours labour charge. Fixed unit and no bleeding to do, I had a garage do mine, if and when I will do it myself.
Hope that helps.

This may sound strange but have you checked that the carpet has not riden up against the back of the pedal and is stopping the the pedal coming up at once ? I had this on the daughters 206, the pedal comes so far and stops then comes the rest of the way 2 seconds later
