IT's been getting harder to change gear over the last few days in my disco. Now the pedal travel with almost no resistance a few inches and I have to push it all the way to the floor to get it to disengage. I checked the reservoir tonight and it looked empty, topped up to top (it was dark and I can't find any level marks) no improvement and if I push it down I can hear a kind of hiss from under the car. I've got tomorrow afternoon off work so will investigate - any common faults to look for and any tips on finding the cause of the issue?

Cheers!

the most likely cause is fooked slave or master cylinder. It could be a hole in the pipe though so definately worth checking. If you change either the master or the slave, fit the other anyway. Chances are you'll only have to do it after a couple of weeks anyway.

Cheers Ratty. I'll just replace both - looking at the prices on Paddock, they ain't much. Looks pretty easy to change too....(famous last words...! haha)

Just order master and slave from Camberley. Was a little more than paddocks but I'll have them at 2pm. If it's the flexi hose I can always take them back or swap them anyway.

Might be worth buying an easi-bleeder if you haven't already got one. Either that or a second pair of hands is a bonus.;)

I think I've got one at home somewhere. If not, my brother is changing the starter on his hot rod this afternoon so if he wants my help, he'll have to help me! I'll make sure we do mine first in case it starts raining....haha!

Well got it all sorted - wasn't a bad job except for being bloody freezing!

Put it all back together and the pedal was really bad - got an eazi bleeder on it and that didn't see to do much at first. Gave it a couple goes then thought about leaving it for the night, decided to give it one more try and we got pedal back. Yay!

There was a small black plastic clip that hod the slave plunger into the clutch fork. Mine was missing one of the clips on the side. I have discarded this as the slave plunger fits quite snug onto the groove on the clutch but should I put this back on? Don't want the arm popping the slave piston off.
